Sarah Prelle Lyness K9 Training. She comes to your house and does the training and most importantly does off leash training so dog doesn't run away. She also takes you were other dogs and people are present to train your dog with crowds. I walk my dog without leash everywhere and people can't believe how behaved my lab is. He can walk right by my side and when I stop he stops and sits. I can go on and on. Check her out on Yelp, her website and Facebook.
I am in search of a good dog trainer, at a fair rate

We used Ryan at Petsmart and also private lessons from Bark Busters. Both were good, but we really needed private lessons. Money well spent. https://www.facebook.com/BarkBustersBeachCities/

Ive taken 3 different classes (6 weeks per class) with "Andrew" at PetSmart in Costa Mesa on 17th Street. He is awesome. He has experience with working with dogs of all ages and breeds. I would suggest taking a private training session, as opposed to a group lesson, it seems to be more beneficial to the dog and you really get your moneys worth. He uses positive reinforcement based upon a Cesar Millan Style. He is very knowledgable and can help you train your dog to do almost anything. I have an Aussie shepherd and a Doxie/Mutt, they're the complete opposite of each other, he's worked with both and there is a very noticeable and positive difference in both. A dog trainer can give you the "tools" to train your dog, but if you want results its about how you work with your dog when your on your own and in your own time.
You say you want to train beyond sit, stay, etc. What exactly did you have in mind?

My petsitter, Animal Amour in Costa Mesa (animalamour.com) also does dog training. Give them a call, they're great. I'm not sure if they have experience with older dogs but just ask. They are super people to work with.

I've worked with Carol Tilton from Confident K-9 and really liked her. She is more in the south OC area, but may work in the Costa Mesa area. http://www.confident-k9.com/index.php
