Some of the "sash window specialists" really took the piss with the prices they were charging. Can't remember what they were called now - "The Box Sash Window Company" or something I think, wanted stupid money. Definitely get a few quotes in as there was a huge range in the few we got. The most expensive was five or six times the cheapest quote.

Alas I am still searching after having sacked my first builder who did ceiling-pulling down and skimming, pretty shabbily and expensively. Great thread, thanks, I may steal tips!
