Phone Services in North Pole, AK

Is the cell phone reception decent in most places? I dont know where we'll be looking at buying a house yet. My husband is hoping to get a job with Kinross, and I'm air national guard, so maybe somewhere in the middle? Any opinions on a good bank? We currently use US Bank, but they dont have a branch in Fairbanks.

It all depends on your perspective and lifestyle. I'm a low maintenance woman that enjoys the outdoors and I've found some great dishes and beers spread throughout Alaska and very much enjoy discovering new ones. I can't speak for the other hospitals, because I am Native, but I know a great dentist (Nanook Dental). You'll find both warm and pissy people here just like you would in any other state, so if you know how to surround yourself with good people, that area of your life will be fine. I went to West Valley and enjoyed it for the most part and loved how many extracurricular activities I had available to me compared to my old schools. I bank with Wells Fargo and have for approx. 20yrs, so I receive great service there. My cell service, AT&T, isn't all that great but, then again, I don't expect it to be when I'm getting 40+ miles out of town or in a concrete blocked walk in basement. I've enjoyed my 13yrs in Fairbanks and my accumulative 20yrs in Alaska. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here.

The hospital is hit and miss...but there are great private practice docs. I presonally dont like the public school system period (not just here) so we homeschool. There are many private school options as well. Cell service is going to depend on where you live who you want as a carrier. ACS and Verizon use the same towers and they have the best in state coverage, but as as stated above, if youre traveling outside ever then use ATT. Internet is more of a challenge than cell svc. Banks are also a.personal choice...Ive heard the most complaints about Wells Fargo and we have closed our accts there years ago. We use MAC..its a small local credit union. Food is great IMO...not enough options but what we have is generally very good. The people here are a variety of lifestyles and most would go the extra step to help others. Like amywhere else, you will find the criminal element but overall, the good outweighs the bad. And you cant beat an Alaskan summer!
