How do I find a vet behavioralist? Or know they qualify?

E F. replied:
Vet Behaviorist is a specific certification, so you'd only want someone who is in the directory.:-)

Doesnt Dr. Overall live in Wisconsin? Where in Wisconsin are you? There are some great CAABs up there, including Dr Patricia McConnell.
Kelly V. replied:
Dr. Overall would be great. Although also awesome, I don't believe Patricia McConnell is able to prescribe meds if necessary.

That is dogsbestfriend.com in Madison.

I have no idea how the Raising your dog with the monks got into my post...sorry that link should be dogsbestfriendtraining.com
Cocoa B. replied:
Kelly Viscosi, she works with a vet who has a keen interest in behavior. She does a lengthy evaluation and the two discuss what should be done. I hired her to work with Jackson's father.
Cocoa B. replied:
Lori Beckbees, there is a KPA trainer in Neenah who may be able to direct you to someone who can help. I am familiar with your general area, and know how hard it is to find a trainer who won't use aversives on your dog. You can google KPA trainer directory and it will bring up a list. (I grew up in Oshkosh).
Kelly V. replied:
If you haven't done so already, Lori, you may want a vet to check his thyroid. Dr. Jean Dodds has an extremely comprehensive thyroid test. You can request that your vet mail her the blood, and she will get results back to you quickly. Here is an interesting article. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/.../features/15723-1.html
Kelly V. replied:
If there is not a vet behaviorist near you, your general vet could do a vetfax long distance consult through Tufts University. http://vet.tufts.edu/behavior/vetfax.shtml
Last dog post, I promise. Can anyone recommend their vet?
Kristine B. replied:
We go to Dr Duffy at Norwalk Veterinary Hospital on CT Ave. We were there with the cats, then Charlie and now Bucko. We've been happy with them.
Dianna S. replied:
Broad River Animal Hospital...a bit $$ but they are really nice there and very accommodating with appointments.
Kate Z. replied:
Strawberry Hill is great, but their best vet, Meredith Re started her own company Good Shepherd and she'll come to your house for about the same price-she's fantastic and her husband is a vet too:)
CJ B. replied:
My neighbor is a vet at Strawberry Hill. Doc Dave (Santisi) - he is great. If you go, please tell him I sent you.
