Jason Graeber is correct. Also with Greyhound, you need to act as their manager and make sure you document everything. I use them all the time but I learned, early on, that it's up to me to make sure they do their jobs. m.

Use Greyhound frequently to ship small furniture, but I book it through http://www.busfreighter.com/. Super affordable, especially if shipping long distance. They offer an upgrade for door to door service, rather than station to station. I also tracked down a wonderful shipper through Uship who strictly tavels up and down I-95 from FL through Maine in the summer and FL through NY in the winter months. If anyone would like his name, just pm me and I'll send it to you. We've used him numerous times with great success.
