What is a good divorce lawyer in Omaha? I have 2 young kids and want to make sure I keep them in my life. Looking for recommendations on a good divorce lawyer.

I'm a lawyer here in town and I used to do some divorce, but not any more.
There are some good names on this list but don't look for "the best." Think of divorce lawyers in tiers. There's the top tier, middle tier, etc. Adam Astley, Angela Dunne, Phil Katz (at Marks Clare), Matt Higgins, Ben Belmont, Chris Vacanti - All top tier. I hired Adam Astley and my ex hired Chris Vacanti and as a lawyer, I was super impressed with how efficiently things got done.
But like I said, don't look for "the best." There's no such thing. Look for someone in the top tier that you can have effective communication with. That's the key. There are great lawyers that have terrible relationships with their clients because they don't have similar communication styles.
Do some research, pick your top three, meet with each and then make a call.
Stay away from Cordell & Cordell. They are the worst, most overpriced pieces of trash. My username is my actual name, and you can tell them I said it. They have good lawyers (Sam Miller could be a great lawyer or judge someday) but their business model makes them horrid and they fight over idiotic stuff.
Also, get ready to pay. If you want top tier, you'll have to pay for top tier but believe me when I tell you it is worth it. I'd rather pay a lawyer $15K to save $100K in child support.
Best of luck. Whatever you do, do not alienate the children. Your ex is going to be in your life for quite a while, so get through whatever you need to get through to be civil and build a healthy relationship for your children.

I used Chris Vacanti for my divorce and managed to get joint physical and legal custody of my daughter while making rather minor financial concessions. Got through it with minimal expense because the ex and I were able to negotiate terms ourselves and Chris was very supportive in letting us do that. Some attorneys like to get into motion/counter-motion squabbles to increase billable hours. When her attorney made her first counter-motion, my attorney countered back saying my ex would be responsible for my lawyer fees incurred should she fight and lose that motion. That completely shut down their use of motions as a means to bleed me dry and force me to capitulate to terms less in my favor. Chris had originally advised me to be the one to file as we would be more likely to succeed in getting the judge to buy into that. It worked and was central to our being able to get a reasonable parenting agreement and financial settlement accomplished without giving all of our assets to the lawyers.
I heard that the ex's second divorce was a very contentious free-for-all that cost huge money, but then her next hubby was a mentally unstable alcoholic lawyer with a sporadic grasp of reality, which may have been a factor. lol

I have a friend who isn’t a lawyer but helps with the process overall to ensure you have the best outcomes / achieve your goals holistically and could recommend some lawyers depending on your exact goals. Can learn more about her service here[Divorce Analytics](https://www.divorceanalytics.com/).

Justin Quinn at Quinn Law has done a good job for me. Lawyers from Vacanti Shattuck and Koenig Dunne were willing to represent my ex when he filed frivolous lawsuits against me that all ended up being dismissed. Avoid Cordell and Cordell like the plague, from what I’ve experienced the lawyers there are super aggressive, run up the bill, and don’t care about the validity of the case. Edited to change details.

Marks Clare and Richards Law firm in Omaha, NE first pick but costly,. Second would be Muench Brian J Omaha NE. He is cheaper and a whopping asshole to boot. Word of advise with him. Anytime you communicate with him after the initial consultation. Shut down all small talk and keep him on track. Be rude if you have too. He will talk too much and it will cost you.

Slowiaczek and Albers is the gold standard for Omaha divorce lawyers. They're recognized nationally, not just locally. I've heard really good things about Nebraska Legal Group also.

Not sure if you would qualify for any of them, but you can always try starting with Legal Aid, the Nebraska Lawyers Project or if you are in Douglas County the Creighton Law clinic. They all offer assistance on a free or sliding scale basis. If there is any domestic violence involved the YWCA assists with finding legal assistance as well. You have to jump through a lot of hoops (this is one of the ways they weed people out) but it could be worth it.
