Looking for a vet or clinic that is cheap enough for me to afford puppy shots. I am on disability and have graciously been given a pup to help cope with my PTSD. Any...
Angela S. replied:
I have heard that the vet in Mineral Wells & Colonial in Belpre are very reasonable. The spot clinic only does shots etc if you're having the pet spayed or neutered. Sometimes they will hold clinics and do low cost shots at them but they haven't had one for a while. Kincaid (Dr. Sullivan) on Blizzard Drive is also very reasonable but I don't think he's accepting new patients, but you could call and ask anyway.
Kenneth B. replied:
The SPOT Clinc has a shot and chip day a few times a year . Tractor Supply has a group there a few times a year that also does heart worm test and chips .
Carrie R. replied:
You would be able to get your puppy all its shots at the time of a spay or neuter at our Clinic. Our rates can be found at www.hsop.org but believe you'll find them extremely reasonable for both spay/neuter as well as shots, wormer, etc. Encourage you to consider getting your pup fixed and at that time you can get all the services your pup needs!
Cindy L. replied:
Dudley Animal Hospital in Dudley Ave is wonderful! Your first exam is complimentary and I think they do discounted immunizations on certain days of the month.
Kenneth B. replied:
I take my nine to Parkersburg Animal Hospital to see Dr. Cunningham . Some vets don't care to work with really big dogs or pit bulls.
Alicia M. replied:
Rescues give there own shots all the time as well as breeders. All the vaccs you buy at Rural King or Tractor Supply are shipped cold packed & stored in refrigerator for sale. I would do initial exam at vet them rest u can buy at store. He should not be away from the mother till 8 wks. Just make sure you stay away from other puppies & keep ur pup at home. Do not take out till after 2 nd set vaccs.
Kayla D. replied:
Currently, the Spot Clinic is only doing vaccinations during a spay or neuter, as they do not yet have a full time staff. However, once they get more help, they will be doing vaccines again (this is what I was told yesterday when I called the Spot Clinic to get info about taking my GSD's there to have their shots done). However, our regular vet, Dr. Mills at Dudley Animal Hospital, is one of the nicest and most competent vets I have ever met. Very compassionate about animals. I would highly recommend going to see her and getting your puppy's shots there. I'm not sure if they are willing to do payment options or not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. If you are prior military, and have a military ID, they might also be willing to give you a military discount. I do know they are wonderful, and I wouldn't trust my pets with any other vet in the area. My whole family has been taking our fur babies to Dr. Mills for over 20 years. She's fantastic, as is the rest of the team there. Good luck.
Brittany D. replied:

Mandy J. replied:
Don't give up hope - many vets will work with you. Wish she was up here because Middletown Animal Clinic in Fairmont was wonderful when my old cat reached that stage. She was willing to work with me on payments and was so sweet when Bonnie passed.
Sherry E. replied:
My vet accepts Care Credit. It is like a credit card but can only be used for medical related stuff, like my vet and dentist. You can make payments instead of the entire balance all at once. You can apply on line at www.carecredit.com for an instant answer.
Carolyn M. replied:
Care Credit card is "interest free" if paid off within 12 months (or used to be) Hope you can help for your friend!
Can anyone recommend a vet to repair a torn acl on a hind leg of a dog. We are going to have to have this repair work done and I am very overwhelmed trying to find a vet...
Barbara B. replied:
I like Dr. Essig. She doctored my min pin Mancho.
Lisa S. replied:
As for a regular vet we only see Dr Shockey at Parkersburg Vet... We love him. We also have been to Medvet in Columbus when our dog develop bloat and they were wonderful, it looks like a hospital and not a vets office. It is pricey but they saved my baby's life!
Karen K. replied:
Dr Shockey is our vet, too, and highly recommend him.
Stacy S. replied:
I just had my Rott done in March, Dr. Barnhart at Med Vet did an awesome job. His staff will walk you through everything & keep checking up on you when you get home. Mine is great now!
Linda B. replied:
Pksbg Vet Hospital has replaced a ligament in two different dogs I have owned -- great work. My son's dog had a torn ACL and they recommended Medvet in Columbus at that time several years ago.

I see Dr. Anne Casto (older, more experienced) and sometimes Dr. Nicole Huddle (younger, less experienced) at Parkersburg Veterinary Hospital. I have never had any complaints with them, but I have never asked either to do major surgery for my pets.
Janice S. replied:
Dr. Cunningham. Excellent and did that same procedure on my Border Collie.

We started going to the Williamstown Animal Hospital. They seem real caring there and really take their time with the exam, etc. Dr. Essig.
Mel M. replied:
We go to Parkersburg veterinary over by bowling alley. They seem to be real good.
Erin C. replied:
I know that you are in Parkersburg, but it is hard to beat Ann Gentry at the JAckson Animal Clinic in Ripley. My dog was having stomach issues too, and they did Barium studies and she even took her home with her so that she could watch her! And she is ALOT cheaper than some of the veterinarians in the Parkersburg area too!
Michele C. replied:
I've tried Kincaid and Parkersburg Vet

Dr Shockey is in Ripley too! LOVE him. He is the best and won't blow smoke up your fanny running tests that are not necessary. Saved my Madi girl when someone used dcon and she got a hold of a poisoned mouse. Well worth the drive. What are the symptoms....I may have some suggestions.

The vets at VCA Animal Clinic are awesome with my 3. My 2 nd dog, Lady, pees every time she visits because of her "past issues".... and they just clean it up and take care of her needs. Also they ask the owner to assist with calming the dog during the exam.
Rocky R. replied:
We just adopted Athena from hsop 3 weeks ago. The vet at VCA Dudley clinic has her on Bravecto for fleas and ticks. Given every 12 weeks orally.
