Listen to Jim Becker. He speaks truth. Apple's off-the-shelf Mac sans retina display is more than sufficient for an enthusiast. For that matter, you could order a custom-built Windows PC, plenty of RAM, a great video card and a 27" display for less for less than an IMac Retina. Then you would have something you could keep up-dated as time passes.

Macs screens are much better than pc screens for editing photos. Macs were originally designed for artists - photographers and musicians and the proof is in the pudding. Go with a mac if you want to edit photos. There is NO comparison. You can find used MacBook Pros on the apple website that come with a full one year warranty. The extra cost of a mac over a pc, for a photographer at least, is WELL worth the money.
