[Schmitt Jewelers](http://www.schmittjewelers.com) is highly recommended. It is the shop I ended up going to for my engagement ring to my fiancé. They have a full blown custom design area and the help was fantastic.

I used Shadwicks Fine Jewellery, in the Perth CBD for my wife's engagement ring. We then went back for the wedding rings. Great workmanship and support, their ideas with the design were first class. In this case, Dan is the man. http://www.shadwicksfinejewellery.com.au/

Anthony Colin the jeweller in London court, he is really well priced and does great work. Just don't judge him on his premises, it's a bit old school.
Mad-For-It replied:
Solid gold diamonds are very good, may be slightly out of your price range but you never know. They may be able to make something for your budget. My advice is, if it's a chain jeweler you decide to go with, never pay full price. Also, take your time and don't succumb to the pressure sales tactics. Good luck!

Got my SO's engagement ring from Shiels in the CBD - couldn't recommend them enough. Very professional, very helpful with price, sizing and all that.
rag31n replied:
http://www.shadwicksfinejewellery.com.au/ Shadwicks in London court re-made my wife's wedding ring after some guys in Dubai did a shoddy job. They also remade her engagement ring in platinum to match the wedding ring, re sized her grandmothers engagement ring when she got that and have fixed my necklace. We have had some great experiences with them and if we ever go in for something else the jeweller always asks for my wife's rings so he can sonic clean them for free.

Rosendorffs in the Hay Street Mall have beautiful jewellery.
xyrgh replied:
Had ours done at Kalamunda Jewellery. Guy there is terrific and will guarantee the stuff for life.
ringalingling123 replied:
We got ours at Albens Master Jewlers. Took them 3-6 months per engagement, wedding, eternity band and $30k but they are BEAUTIFUL custom rings with insane detail in them. The bands were around $600-$2000 depending on complexity, 24kt
I his names Graham and her names Andrea. Say hi for me :-P
I went to maybe... 30-40 jewelers. It took me 3 months to pick a store then about 3-6 months to get the ring made. It was worth it.
These guys were the only ones to actually have the products to back up what they were saying.
A few of the big guys down on the main street said 'yes we can make one that looks like that' but then I found out that at least half of them actually subcontract their ring making to these guys haha.
Good stuff.
The Perth store is a little small and it really doesn't do itself justice. Ask to look as some of the custom jobs that have out back and you'll be blown away.
ALSO - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :D
Wishing you guys all the best :)
PS the diamond matters a lot. You can get a low grade thats huge and no one will know. Only 1 in 100 people actually know the 4 c's and what diamonds are really worth. Just get the cheapest biggest rock you can get and it will blow everyone away.
Pro tip - dropping the color grade but having a highly fluorescent rock will give you a stone that appears whiter than it is... a grade G-J will look like a D-F
Finally - you can get stuff made overseas but jewelry made by a good jeweler wont lose its value... It actually goes up in value... If you buy a 'bulk' ring on amazon yes it will be 24k it will have a 1k stone. But its bulk for a reason. We recently had outs reappraised for insurance purposes and they have gone up 15k in 3 years :S Not to mention some stories of people getting steel bands instead of gold. Or fake diamonds. Not that it happens often and I'm sure amazon, blue nile etc all are legit I just didnt feel comfortable with something so expensive coming from somewhere that I couldnt go back and return it if I had a problem.
cybacolt replied:
i'm not a fan of jewellery store chains, so we found a small jeweller in leederville: http://rohanjewellery.com/ they did a lovely custom band and consultation for my wife for a reasonable amount.
CrossPlaneCrank replied:
Try Cashies. Mate got a large brilliant cut diamond engagement ring for 20% of the price and other independent jewellers verified it's all real. (He arranged a cash refund arrangement with Cashies pending verification.) Still a secret to this day.

I had a great experience at Allgem Jewellers in Perth city. Very straightforward, certified diamonds, excellent service etc. Also years later they made my engagement ring into a pendant and earrings and did a wonderful job!

I bought my partners engagement ring at Ross Ezekiel in the City. We're planning to get our wedding bands there too. Fantastic dude. A lot of the older crowd keep going back to him for rings and they tell their kids to go there too. Tell him your budget and he'll make something work. It's all fantastic custom work.
lannieboi replied:
Got ours done here - http://www.jogiadiamonds.com.au/ Wife wanted a "unique" (no different to my eye but whatever makes her happy) ring based off a Tiffany and Co design and took it from there. Depending on what done with the engagement ring you can get by with a lower graded diamond to make it cheaper but yet still look good. Bloody de beers and their advertising advocating that diamonds are forever... Grumble grumble
kells11515 replied:
I got my wedding band at Solid Gold and I was pretty happy with them. And a few years ago the wife's engagement ring needed some repair. I took it to Matusiks (or similar) which is on Beaufort St just up from Walcott st. They were brilliant!
Lolliebuzz replied:
We went to Albens on Hay St and had them custom made. We had some of the stones already, and cost $3000 all up for 3 rings. It does take time though, a month or two, so factor that in.
Agent641 replied:
Thanks for the suggestions all, I will check out the places mentioned, these give me a good place to start shopping around. I'll probably need to increase my budget too. NBD. Also if anyone has suggestions about engagement ring styles/metal type/setting type, particularly females, that would be really helpful since I don't have much of a clue about what looks good and what doesn't. I prefer white gold, and this type of design: http://www.jogiadiamonds.com.au/engagement_rings/half-bezel-rubover-set-diamond-engagement-ring-ER41/ but my personal preference might be a bit off. The ones with the big blocky square gem look a little garish to me.
