My diagnosis came about after seeing a GP at Your Health when they were in Camberwell over 12 years ago, They've moved to Brighton, so too far for me, but they have GP's that use both traditional & complementary/alternative/natropathic medicine. Not sure about costs, or which GP would be best, but worth a try. http://www.yourhealth.com.au/select-alternative-doctor-natural-medicine-melbourne-vic.php

Mary C. replied:
Wondering or thinking she might have Fibro isn't helpful. She could have any one of similar diseases or disorders. Med treatment may be very different. She needs a Rheumatologist to diagnose if it is fibromyalgia. She'll need a referral from a GP for that. Google Kalgoorlie Nutritionist/Dietician & Rheumatologist - then ring a few - ask questions to determine how fibro friendly they are. Your sister can ask GP for referral to any- all of them. Her GP will want to test her for other autoimmune diseases or rule out similar disorders... Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, ME/CFS, MS ...etc. This will require blood/urine tests & possibly Ultrsounds & scans. Her journey to Kalgoorlie is just the beginning. The Fibromyalgia Support Network WA will be able to help her through this process with information, resources, advice, compassion, kindness & understanding. Any and all the support you can give your sister will be invaluable & a great kindness. Bless you both.

Have had 4 different drs diagnose. Dr Bennett and Dr Pryzbylski at Adamstown clinic. Pryzbylski is brilliant. Specialists are Dr Coleman immunologist and allergist and Dr Boyle immunologist at Newcastle Centre JHH. Have heard Mark Toh at Merewether is also good
Danielle S. replied:
Dr Donahue in Sydney is a Fibromyalgia expert if you can get to sydney.... you need multi modal treatment protocols including diet, anxiety management, pain therapy, hormonal and vitamin supplement therapy. Don't waste your time with a ANY GP they are all useless. And do your own research. So many fibro sufferers just sit around and suffer. Don't! There is HEAPS of information on the internet which can help you formulate your own management plan. Good luck!

My GP referred me to St Vincents hospital to see a rheumatoid specialist. As it was through the public health system, it took ages for the appointment, but finally got one and a disgnosis. My GP then referred me to an Exercise Physiologist through the Allied Health EPA referral. You get 5 sessions through Medicare with a small out of pocket expense. It can be hard finding a good GP and specialist. I found this info online, if it helps -http://www.fibromyalgiaforums.org/fibromyalgia-doctors/au/vic/melbourne

I have had FM for 33 years and rheumatologist don't know anymore than you do, they just give you drugs and more drugs. Please forgive me for being so blunt but I would love for everyone to listen to this doctor online he and other Chiropractors are now getting involved in autoimmune diseases today. I found him when I was so down I did not want to live another day then I got up one morning and called my GP for and RX for physical therapy and got started with heat and deep massage's 3 times a week and that really helped for now. I was online and found this doc his name is Dr. Daniel Roney and we my husband and myself attended a seminar he was having at his office and a lot of people showed up because this guy I believe is on to something great! GO ONLINE and hear him talk to you he has a clip "film" and says it like it is so I already started with him. SEE what you think?? After 33 years with this crap I am very skeptical of any one saying they know the answer but I think this guy knows more than anyone I have met. I am in California and he is too! Orange County CA near South Cost Plaza. Please listen to him PLEASE! Tell me what you think??
Valeree W. replied:
I have great insurance and I have been to at least 100 doctors in my day, so please understand I know what i"m talking about! rheummys and others give you drugs that don't really help, us they just make us feel like a slug and make you fat! We look fine, we just really feel So`So bad no one know but us,,, right? You know, I know you know! Pick yourself up and look elsewhere like this guy!! Love Ya Guys!!

Tymms and Khoo have both closed their books. The have rheumatologists like jayaweera come in from Sydney now to help with the patient load. The only other I know of taking on new patients is dr Pereira in Barton. Have heard good things about him also. The Canberra Rheumatology docs were rumoured at one point to be sending new referrals to Sydney for their initial consult, then flow-ups would be done in the Canberra rooms. It can take 4-6 mths to get an initial consult, and GP's have been recommending Sydney or Wagga to get seen quicker.
