Wisdom tooth removal recommendations? (SSMU) So impacted wisdom tooth removal is covered under the SSMU plan, but many of the dentists I visit want to refer-out to a...

I got my wisdom teeth removed two years ago and it was completely covered by the SSMU health plan. There's a dentist on Peel, it was quick (one hour or so for all 4) and painless. Look for Dr. Myrna Naman. http://centredentairelescours.com/contactez-nous/

if you have impacted wisdom teeth they're going to be cutting through bone to get them out. you want (need) the general anesthesia. take a friend with you. and because this is legit surgery it's done by oral surgeons and not dentists. it's probably covered by health and not dental insurance actually. mine was

not sure if he is part of the McGill network, but I got mine taken our by Dr. Saleh, a maxillofacial surgeon. He uses general anaesthesia, and I strongly suggest you use general. heres the site : http://salehrobin.com
arminius_saw replied:
I dunno about impacted wisdom teeth, but the dental clinic sent me to Dr. El-Onsi out by Concordia. I ran into him later at the clinic just doing regular checkups (standing in for someone?), so I'm pretty sure he's part of the network. They did local anesthesia and got me out pretty speedily, although I don't remember how long exactly. Nice office, too.
practicaldildo replied:
I'm fairly certain that dentists do not do wisdom extractions, because it requires anesthesia... That's generally an oral surgeon's job. All I know is my dentist sent me to an oral surgeon that does only wisdom teeth surgery. So if the SSMU plan covers extractions, it must cover the specialist that does that. Unfortunately I can't recommend any oral surgeons, but this is a really standard procedure and you should be fine seeing just about anyone, because they do this all day every day, usually. Go with general anesthesia if your wisdom teeth are impacted. Local anesthesia is only when you're getting easy non-impacted teeth out, or so my surgeon told me.

I went to [this guy] (http://www.seaforthoralsurgery.com/en/oral_surgeon_montreal_quebec/dr_antoine_chehade.html) and he was outstanding. Gave me IV sedatives (including roofies, so I don't remember a thing) and some excellent (READ: OXY) pain killers for the recovery. Highly recommended. Does he take the SSMU dental plan? I have absolutely no idea.
