Does anyone know of a vet in PE that specialises in exotic pets? More specifically that would be able to treat a chinchilla? Thank you in advance.

Looking for Vet recommendations, wanting to move Charlie, Rocky and Chloe to a new Vet, I'm not happy with my current Vet anymore :'(
Jenna K. replied:
Oh and another thing about Southern Cross they over 10% discount for cash and 5% for card. They really do try and help cut costs as much as they can, they dont do accounts either but they are VERY understanding..

Jean Davis. Hi was Dr Sim at Bay Vet in Wamer a few years ago. Don't go that way much and noticed moved. So maybe Name change as well. They were Great when my Ally was still with me. Miss her every day. (Skin cancer)
Jean D. replied:
Marianne Durandt yes Dr Sim was there but he went on his own and he is fantastic. He treats his patients as if they are human. Love him to bits.

Ive looked into alot of pet medical aids they all require micro chipping of the dog and dont covwr things like brothers fighting. Its more for surgeries and ailments and accidents. Tracey never came across a med aid where the 2 nd and 3 rd dogs are free got quotes through hippo.com and if I want to have med aid for all 3 its like R1000. 2 nd and 3 rd are cheaper. Let me know which you're looking at. Don't get me wrong no amount is too great but because I paid cash I asked for an amount so I could budget and draw the money I was told to clean the wound and medication because its on the leg with a risk of infection they were not going to stitch it up so only to flush wound and antibiotica and anti inflammatories it would be R400 - R 500. If they have to sedated him it will have to go up to R800 - R 1000 when I collected him the first thing they tell me is we didn't have to sedate him. I get the bill its R 850 I accept it because they put him on 2 courses of antibiotics then the tell me I have to bring him back for the next 3 days to flush that wound at first I think I've covered all costs then I'm told it will be R20 I accept that. I bring him back they charge me R116, then still want to charge me for day 2 & 3. Now as I say no amount of money is too great but you can't tell people its going to be so much then never even charge close to that everytime. So even though he v was never sedated I still paid the amount it was suppose to be for sedation. Then it was going to cost me R60 for 3 days of flushing and paid double that on day 1 and there were still going to be charges for day 2 and 3. It doesn't work like that you can't keep bleeding money out of people like that. They offer no accounts meaning you have to have full amount immediately so what if it was worse how does someone come up with thousands of rands.
Jenna K. replied:
Tracy Ratchet is not micro chipped and they never asked her to be micro chipped to cover her. Medipet even covers supliments and things. Go directly to Medipet. A nice thing is with Southern Cross you can use your Edgars account for an emergency.

Ive been to mount pleasant vet to have my bassets spayed and only just been back and forth for about the last two weeks with the one that has had 2 tumours removed. We were there twice just yesterday. My bassies are my life I wouldnt take them somewhere if I was not happy with the vet. Dr de Beer has taken so good care of Bella and doesnt charge unnecessarily for things. The two ladies we've dealt with at the front office have also always been helpful. My aunt uses Southern Cross vet so I know they are good too, but my one bassie gets car sick so I have to go to one as close as possible to home and am very happy with Mount Pleasant.
Jean D. replied:
Simone Beets they must have new staff and I'm pleased to know your baby is fine. Just shows what reception can change a persons view of a vet practice. I will try there again.
Tracey D. replied:
9 th Ave are tops. pls pls pls if you have a complaint go to fbook page and lodge it. the handle ur animals with dignity and respect. So does Linton Grange Animal Hospital. Tracy you should have told that rude person where to get off. 9 th Ave even give you discharge papers once your baby has been discharged.
Jenna K. replied:
Southern Cross vet in Mill Park Dr Johnson and Dr Kerr are amazing and very reasonable with their pricing.
Rachel N. replied:
Southern Cross, Tracy!! NO QUESTION!!! My mum goes to the Kragga Kamma vet, which would be nearest to you, but even she says they are exhorbitantly expensive.
Jean D. replied:
South City Walmer Dr Sim is fantastic.
Jean D. replied:
Don't like Mount Pleasant vet sorry Simone Beets.
Tracy S. replied:
Thank you everyone, I used to take my bunny to Southern Cross, so i think i will return there it definitely is a bit of a distance from me, but sure it will be worth it. I still like the dr's at 9 th avenue but i'm sorry the staff behind the counter are rude and not helpful at all, i am so upset about my whole experience over the last two days as i've been with 9 th avenue for the last 6 years. Rachel don't like Kragga Kamma Vet at all and they are very expensive. I've actually never heard of South City Walmer I'll be honest and i know of Mount Pleasant Vet and also heard good things about them.
Tracey D. replied:
@Jenna. pls email me details to traceydelport123@gmail.com. Thanks
Southern cross is in Millpark isn't it? Lorraine vet, mount pleasant vet, kragga kamma vet, sunridge park vet, Linton Grange vet, there's a vet on corner of 8 th Ave and Walmer main road.
Bev S. replied:
Dr Dean is also in Walmer on road near airport. not sure what it is called again. anyone know.
Can anyone recommend a vet practice in PE that offers welfare rates to rescue organisations?
Maggie M. replied:
for me the best is Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic.
Estelle T. replied:
Van Vollenhoven cant help rescue organisations. He is too busy with all the private people that take their dogs to him. He is fully booked for steralisations up to 6 months in advance. If we rescue a dog we cant wait 6 months before he can be steralised.
And so here we have yet another case of yet another backyard breeder in PE who probably couldn't get rid of his entire litter any other way so gave this little pup to...
