Does anyone know of a family law lawyer who doesn't cost a fortune? I'm having issues with custody and parenting time. Basically just legal advice for the most part .....

I have seen here some statements that are not true. The comment the courts always go with mom is not true. I am finishing a case now where the judge awarded my client, the father, sole legal and sole physical custody. Mom only gets 2 hours a week of parenting time. I am not saying this can happen in every case, but the facts were with my client. I had another case the end of last year where father has custody and mother was seeking parenting time, and it was denied too, again the facts supported my client. I know I posted before about avvo.com, but it is a great source. While client’s comments are there too, you should look to the attorney comments. This is because client reviews are based on outcome most of the time, and in some cases the case a client has is bad and would result in bad comments and where a good outcome would result in good comments. Attorney reviews are based on what an attorneys see other attorneys doing with the case and facts that they have. The idea of an out of county attorney may not be the best idea. Our local attorneys have a good feel for our judges. The first case I am referring to, the mother had three out of county attorneys. The case even went to the Court of Appeals during trial, my firm also won on the appeal. As to the comment about what others think about me. I’m sure you can find people that hate me and others that love me and my firm, the same with most attorneys and firms. Our firm is very laid back until it comes to being in court. Yes, we refer to my Port Huron office as PoHo and the Marine City office as MarineTown. Sorry if this offends people. As for the quality of service my firm provides, the NACDA named me as one of the top ten attorneys in the State of Michigan, the only St Clair County attorney named in 2013 (www.national-academy.net/attorneys/attorneys-michigan). I would also like to say we have a great local bar in this county and none of us can win all cases for a client based on the facts and delay in hiring an attorney. Mr Clark, I hope you find an attorney that will work hard for you, regardless who you hire. I hope you do not go at this alone. Even if you don’t have an issue TODAY any longer, as I see many people post when its all over in court, seek out an attorney to talk about what you want and see if a plan can be put in place. Too often someone wants something and they want it now and don’t have their ducks in order. Again, best wishes

Personally I would never go with a lawyer who calls the town his office is in PoHo instead of Port Huron, especially when they are trying to gain a client. It's important to be professional even on social media. Bryan Black is a great lawyer, honest, trustworthy, professional, respectful, knowledgeable and a a great listener!

All the "Black Black & Black" lawyers are crooks! Take drugs for payment! They did get raided, Jan Corp, but I am unsure of which one took the fall. I only have heard of the bad they do. Tried to take my friend's home as collateral...he refused of course that's crazy lol...and a lady friend of mine went there for her divorce and he lost big time, she lost her house, vehicles, personal belongings, got no alimony ohhh man he screwed her over (her ex paid him off so she would suffer) THEN he charged her so much that it took over ten years to pay back! They are crooks! How could a lawyer defending somebody be so heartless and take everything from his own client?! Nasty crooks.

Bryan Black is a brother to David Black who is the one who was in trouble. He has a completely separate law firm on Range Rd. Don't know enough about him to comment otherwise. I've heard both good and bad but just wanted to set the record straight. Must be hard having such a notorious brother in the same profession!

Divorce sucks. It's going to get ugly. The kids are the ones who lose the most. I used James Pratt he was horrible but that's my opinion. Best advice is to try abd work it out.

Really? We used her for custody of grandchildren, one is non biological. We got full physical and legal custody. At first she said since we weren't related, we probably wouldn't win. She is half sibling of my grandson. We have had kids for 3 years and still use her. Her father used David Heyber (not sure in spelling) he is very aggressive, might be good for you.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! :( I filed for divorce from my ex-husband myself, including the parts for our minor child. It's a little daunting, but if you follow the instructions in this book, it can cost you less than $250. http://www.amazon.com/Michigan-Divorce-Book-Uncontested-Attorney/dp/0936343214/ (the library might be able to loan you a copy, so you don't have to buy it).
