My daughter goes for her annual check up towards the end of April. While there I’d like to get several referrals to see doctors that it’s been far too long since...
Cat A. replied:
Orthopedics: Dr. Baynam in Jupiter I believe. He used to work with CMS. Have you been to Shriner's Hospital? You should be able to get her served there and when my son was a patient at Shriner's, we were never required to pay for anything! Dentist: You may need to get a referral from a general dentist/pediatric dentist (but check on that) Diane Ciccarelli may know for sure, since it's Medicaid. Then, I would take her to see Dr. Most at the Center for Specialized Dentistry in Stuart or SLW. If he isn't available, one of his colleagues would be able to see her. They see a lot individuals with disabilities, including my son. Does she have Autism? If so, I can register her with FAU-CARD, I am the Clinical Support Specialist in St Lucie County. As far as menstruation....I have a resource book in my office in SLW that has a chapter on this and I could get you a copy of that...even if she doesn't have ASD, I would still be able to provide that to you. You can Private Message me, or email me at callore@fau.edu.

Wow, thank you so much. She did use to see Dr. Baynam but they stopped answering my calls and returning calls after her second attempt of the Baclofen (sp?) therapy. We loved him but can't get a hold of them. I even scheduled an appointment online through there new site. A few days later it was cancelled. It's really strange
Meg G. replied:
Hi Jenni! not sure if you remember my son Andrew? He & your daughter used to go to school together years ago!!! He sees Dr. Mays for dental also the man is so patient!!
Tessa H. replied:
Jenni, we see Dr. Baitner and Dr. Asghar at Miami Chiildren's for Ortho. We've been seeing them since Elisabeth was 2. I won't take her anywhere else for Orho. Elisabeth has had the lengthening of her muscles/tendons and has also have hip surgery as well as the spinal fusion, with them. They are totally awesome doctors! We just started seeing the Endoc for puberty issues and we see him in CMS clinic. We love him, as well. He is very informative and takes his time and explains any and every thing. Also, I've been told by a personal friend that there is a Dentist in Stuart that takes straight Medicaid.

My daughter has spastic quad CP. She has very tight legs and her hip is already out of joint, she's only 6. We have been bringing her to st Joseph's children's hospital in Tampa and LOVE it. They have a spasticity clinic there once per month where all different doctors get together in one room to asses your child and collaborate on the best method of care. They have an Ortho, the director of the st joes children's scoliosis center, neurologist, neurosurgery, physiology, physical therapist, and occupational therapist, there may be a couple I forgot. During the clinic they will let you know what they suggest as far as surgeries or medication. They will wright a script for you for any meds on the spot but you would have to follow up with the specialist in their office if they recommend surgery or anything invasive. It's a little bit of a drive but for us it's well worth it getting all those doctors in one room at the same time. We went to Baynam first and he recommended hip surgery right away without suggesting anything for her spasticity. She's so tight that if we had gone ahead with his recommendation there would be a very good chance that her hip would have dislocated again. At St Joes they really look at the child as a whole. If a hip is subluxed they look at the cause, is it a curved spine throwing off the hips?, or lower extremity spasticity pulling the hip out of joint?. They are very systematic in their approach. The contact number is 813-554-8727, the patient coordinators name is penny nickelson, she's very sweet too. I also second Tessa's endocrinologist recommendation. He is amazing! Go see him ASAP to get ready for her period. His name is dr. John Duncan. He's based out of Melbourne but like Tessa said, he goes to the CMS clinic. We are planing on taking my daughter to Miami children's for her dentist. They do sedation there and I would rather deal with sedation at a real hospital instead of an outpatient facility.
Tessa H. replied:
Dr Bayman is the one who wouldn't fix Elisabeth's hips because she didn't walk. We went to MCH and after having them fixed she was able to go into a stander. Love love love Dr Baitner at MCH.
Cat A. replied:
There was one in Jupiter that covered for Dr. Alonzo when she would go on vacation. Here's a link to his website: http://www.pediatricandadultdentistry.com/
Lisa L. replied:
For Ortho, Miami Children's, Dr. John Asghar (spine), my son had full spinal fusion due to CP. Dr. Tidwell (all other Ortho) both at Miami Children's. The staff on 2 E, post surgery, is fantastic! For a full service dentist Dr Nilsa Toledo, she is an oral surgeon and and Orthopedict surgeon, 561-215-1603 and her office is bi-lingual. They are all miracle workers and we are so very grateful for all of them, my son is a new man!
Jenni M. replied:
I was able to get an appt with Dr. Asghar and Dr. Baitner to address my daughters ortho needs. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I really hope that they are as great with us as they are with you.:-)
Jenni M. replied:
Saw Dr. Baitner and Dr. Asghar today, Tessa. They are awesome! Thanks for the referral
Tessa H. replied:
I never saw the comment asking for wheelchair clinic, sorry. Its 772-467-6000. I'm so glad you saw our Ortho team. I love them to death! They are so worth the drive!! What did they say about Celeste?
Jenni M. replied:
Update: Celeste had the spinal fusion surgery on 8/25/15 with Dr. Asghar...he and his team are amazing! She's already back to school and all regular activities and looks and feels amazing! Dentist: Dr. Mays still not accepting new patients so we scheduled with Dr. Toledo yesterday. She seems very knowledgeable in several areas. We had some hiccups first visit but can accommodate all three kiddos in all aspects. Looking forward to working with her. We saw Dr. Duncan (endo) today and he also seems super awesome. Did some blood work and hand bone age scan for him same day and will schedule pelvic exam at St. Mary's which is much closer than Melbourne. Her prior blood work showed very high levels of LH and FSH. So high that they are in the menopausal range. Pretty sure she will need Estrogen supplementation for all around health and will deal with potential menstruation issues in the future. He indicated a new possible link with her specific hormone issues to her ACC and recommended seeing a geneticist. Any suggestions? While we're at it, we may also go ahead and see a Neurologist. She hasn't seen either of those specialists since she was under 2. No answers for us at that time. Could be different 15 years later. Thanks for all your support.
Lisa L. replied:
Drs Ashgar and Toledo, best ever!!!!
Tessa H. replied:
We don't see a geneticist (saw one at CMS one time and was cleared from that) but for Neuro we see Dr. Epstein out of Miami but he goes to Palm Beach Gardens office. Love him! If she is showing signs of menopausal range would that mean she may not ever go through menstruation?
Tessa H. replied:
We use Dr. Lynn Erbe on Gatlin ... 1721 SW Gatlin Blvd, Port St Lucie, FL 34953 (772) 873-0037
Paulette B. replied:
We love Dr DUNCAN, always worth the trip. Eye doc we use is dr Friedman, ped opthomologist he has an office in NPB
Jenni M. replied:
Update: We did a consult with Toledo. She seems really great and knowledgeable but her receptionist is a bit of a pain to work with. I'm hoping Toledo is worth the aggravation. I was also able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Epstein in PBG but the earliest appointment Feb. 9th. I just got of the phone with Dr. Erbe's office and am really excited. Not only can Celeste go, but they accept my insurance too. I scheduled for myself and all 3 kiddos.:-) Dr. Duncan is pretty awesome. He personally called me to discuss some of her results. Namely the LH, FH and Estradiol levels. They confirmed previous results and he prescribed her an estrogen patch to be changed every week. I really like how he explains everything. He's very thorough and really nice to talk to.
Lisa L. replied:
Dr Friedman did 2 eye surgerys on my son, great job

Ronnie W. replied:
No, I had one 30 years ago by Dr. Jung, Maria's doctor. Then, the Dr. gave you Valium and you could watch the procedure on a screen. You didn't have to go to a specialist. The primary physician took care of it along with paps. And it wasn't unpleasant. Nowadays, you have to go to a specialist and they put everyone under anesthesia.

That's scary...yes, change Dr. For sure. I've had three Colonoscopy procedures ... Colon Cancer runs in my family
