I'm moving to Portland at the end of August and have a few questions: Hey /r/portland! I'm a former Bostonian who migrated to California and just landed a gig in...

Moving to Portland in mid-August for a job - commenting to follow as I have basically the same questions. I was able to get a duplex from a private lessor via Craigslist/Zillow (it was listed on both), but I also applied for an apartment through Portland Apartments and they were very reasonable and straightforward with their process and with their lease expectations. Just wish I hadn't have seen the MAGA calendar in their office... Didn't factor much into my housing decision as the place I've secured is more what I'm looking for, but still.

The Fitness Factory is pretty good for power/olympic lifting.

I highly recommend Live Vital for power lifting- there are highly knowledgeable PTs and trainers on staff. It’s a small but well-equipped gym

honest mechanics: Depends on your car. Lexconnect in portland/westbook is great for all cars... they specialize in Toyota/Lexus vehicles, but are very honest to work with.

Stay away from any Soley property. Fire in fore has a great medical storefront. Elevation 207 and exhale for rec delivery companies. Foreign cars=Phil’s foreign auto in south portland Haircuts=www.momentumportland.com Drinks=Blyth and burrows, Lincoln’s. Tons of food places. Coffee=tandem. Yordprom. Bard.

I went through Craigslist for my Apts. Sometimes mgmt companies use it, but there are some good independent landlords with some good properties. I used hh sawyer and sons then found my most recent digs on CL. Meet ups, like people have said are interest dependent. Pot is via weed maps or medical.

Hamilton's service station is a well rated and popular mechanic close to downtown Portland, been using them for the past 10 years

> Are there any honest mechanics that you would recommend? Where can I get a cheap oil change? Literally hundreds. I get oil changes at Prompto and have been extremely satisfied. As to mechanics, it depends on what your vehicle is. > Is MJ done through grey market delivery services (a la Boston) that operate on donations or are there rec storefronts in the state? Gray market until some time early next year. > Are there any meetup options that you would recommend for people 25-35? Depends on your interests.

Avoid Jiffy Lube, Prompto, and VIP at all costs. Too many loose drain plugs leading to blown motors. Source: Used to submit warranty claims for dealerships MJ is still a grey area, but you can get a med card for as little as $40 now. I look at it like a membership card. They are super easy to get. Powerlifting I would say Worlds is your best bet. Fitness Factory is getting more and more like Planet Fitness.

In addition to Dynamaxx, Iron Legion in nearby Westbrook is a good powerlifting gym with great trainers and a good community. https://www.ironlegionstrengthco.com/

I have better luck staying with independent ones. Otherwise, your choice is limited, but Port Property Management is generally fair and responsive. Some of their buildings have dog restrictions, some do not. You planning to live on peninsula or ... out there with the dragons?
>Is MJ done through grey market delivery services (a la Boston) that operate on donations or are there rec storefronts in the state?
Grey market. There are a couple delivery services if those haven't been cracked-down on. Go to the next MJ convention in Portland and collect some cards and talk to some people.
>Are there any meetup options that you would recommend for people 25-35?
Depends on your interests. There are always tons of events happening that revolve around culture/art/parks. Especially now that it is summer. Green Drinks still happens I think. First Friday can be fun. Do you like food? Food events are pretty great and numerous. Do you like music? The local music scene is fun!
