The Old Salt Restaurant at Lamie's tavern. Really good beef stew and turkey pot pie and excellent sandwiches.

Shio, Nostimo, Lexie's, Mombo, Wellington Room, Moxy, Black Trumpet... there's a lot to choose from. I haven't had good luck at Friendly Toast of Cafe Med but it's been a while. RiRa's is actually a chain but they do a nice job.

Does it have to be in Portsmouth? The Barley House opened recently. It's located in North Hampton in the Shaws plaza, where TGIF's used to be. We went for the first time last weekend and the food was really good. Reasonable prices too. We also love The Rosa Restaurant. Delicious!

The River House has a great variety of gluten-free choices, including a scrumptious brownie sundae dessert. The owner's daughter needs gluten-free foods so he made sure there are plenty of choices on there for those who need them.

River house even has gluten free beer, but they need to get the Ommission Pale Ale instead of the yellow label one. Green Elephant good GF and vegan options. Great food.
