Recommendations for apt rentals? We are moving to Providence from NYC soon and will be renting a place, probably on the East Side. Samson Realtors seem to be everywhere...
DCMurphy replied:
Samson wasted my time; saw three houses that the realtor didn't know much about (couldn't tell me if there was on site laundry, utilities, etc.) and only one was in my price range. Do NOT live at University Heights. If you're coming from NYC I'd also recommend looking on the West End: more square footage, parking spaces, and not so dominated by the colleges.
orm518 replied:
"Providence? Oh, I heard it's a really cute city." or "Providence? Like Rhode Island?" My gf and I are moving to Pvd from Brooklyn (her) and Boston (me). This sums up the reactions we get from our friends in New York. To answer your question. We're looking generally at the East Side as well. We've been using this realtor [Rhode Guide](http://www.therhodeguide.com/). We have an appointment to look at places in two weeks.
m1327 replied:
Honestly, go with padmapper .. and just find where you want that way. Samson realty is not where you want to go.
CupBeEmpty replied:
I second m1327, padmapper.com in combination with just checking craigslist and apartments.com directly is the way to go. I have heard nothing good about Samson. If you want more advice on neighborhoods and apartment hunting in general [search](http://www.reddit.com/r/providence/search?q=moving&restrict_sr=on) the [old](http://www.reddit.com/r/providence/search?q=apartment&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all) threads. Also check out the neighborhood map in the sidebar.

David Hasslinger at Residential Properties. Great guy, did a lot of legwork for us when we moved here and couldn't be in person for some places, then planned a 10-stop whirlwind day of looking when we were able to be in town.
