Not sure if this is ok to post on here, but I am seriously looking into becoming a dog trainer and would like to know whar courses you would recommend.

That's one thing about the Academy, its focus is on B-mod AND training. Vicky O'Connor, good call on the "chicken camp" thing. I train horses as well as dogs, but haven't been able to get to chicken camp yet. Made famous by the great Bob Bailey and offered by Terry Ryan, too.

I like Peaceable Paws (Pat Miller) if you live near NC or MD campuses. Lots of great Bob Bailey chicken camps all summer at Coventry School in MD, too.
Vicky O. replied:
Yes, Anne Springer this is one effect, although I see it in the shorter term way...people wanting to train a dog arrive with concerns, and life projects...things that are going on with them. I find the more life centered projects they have going on, the tougher it will be for them to begin living with a dog that they are working on.

Point in fact, then 'judgment' falls into 'pre-judgment' and you potentially give your client (if you take them as clients?) less because of your pre-conceived notion(s)? Pffffft. Example: Two professional parents with young children approached me as a behaviorist. The dog in question: fe 1 yr old Yellow Lab (get this)... had been flunked out of three obedience classes (various school/class settings), asked to not return to puppy day care early on; owner's notation was "sweet" but can you help her, she is a mess. She came to me as "Marley",,, left two weeks later as Ms. Manners Supremely Extrordinnaire. Should I have said "no" to the people (who yes, could have been part of the problem). Obviously not. Life is now heaven. For all of them. I rest my case. Never EVER JUDGE. You run the risk of being w-r-o-n-g. The end.
