My 11 yo daughter would like to go to a sleep away horse camp. Has anyone had experience with one that they would recommend? Options to take her own horse would be nice,...

I will second the recommendation for Chatham Hall in Chatham, VA. This will be my daughter's third summer. You can take your horse or use their horses. You do have to book early.

Shadow Mountain Farm, just outside of Knoxville TN, is wonderful. Can't bring your own horse, but the camp horses there are really great, and the camp director is awesome. It's a longish drive, but it's definitely worth it! Check out smfhorsecamp.com

Shadow Mountain Farm is amazing (coming from a mother!) We started by going to mother-daughter camp to check it out, and then sent her that summer. Not for the serious show girls, as it's NOT fancy, and is more about the horse/rider relationship, (director is an endurance rider) nature, and friendship. Small, about 15 girls per session. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Chatham Hall in VA. Pricey but amazing.. once in a lifetime experience for some!

Check her out on Facebook or her website at http://yonahlosseesaddleclub.org/about-us.html. My daughter has gone a couple of years and had a great time! Low stress and fun - great kids and great riding.

Shadow Mountain Farm (mentioned by my daughter, above) is an amazing program and ridiculously reasonable. The focus is less on formal, "show-style" camps and more about horse and girl relationship, skill-building, and being outdoors--a far cry from polished, specifically hunter/jumper style places along the East Coast. The director is a very respected endurance rider with literally thousands of miles logged. She offers specialty camps at Halloween and Christmas, as well as mother/daughter weekends. SMF has been a life-changing place not only for my daughter, but for me as well! A special place

It might be a bit far for your tastes, but Shadow Mountain Farm, just outside of Knoxville, TN, has three sessions of overnight camp this year. I've gone since I was 12, and am now attending as a counselor! It's a wonderful, supportive, and informational environment, and the director/trainer has 20+ years of experience.
