Just wondering how much DJ's usually cost around this area? And if anyone has some good referrals to some that would be great!!!!

DJ Kev with music for all, based right in cf. Very reasonable. Price for a lot of them will vary on how long u need them for but you get what u pay for usually! Your guests will not probably remember the centerpieces but they do remember your music and how fun it was!!

I appreciate the tag, and what the originator of the post is trying to do. There are some things people need to understand when looking for ANY kind of wedding professional. 1. Everyone is on a budget. There are just different budgets for everyone. 2. Those of us that are professional DJ's have way more invested in our craft that people seem to understand. Transportation: I have a trailer that cost almost $2000 just to haul my stuff. Plus my SUV to pull it. but I won't factor that cost in as well since it is my only vehicle. Equipment: Amps $1000 Speakers $4000 Sound Board $500 Microphones $1000 (wireless and wired) Light Control $200 Lights $1500 Misc $1500 (cables, cases, power conditioners) Laptops $1000 Hard Drives $2500 (including all the backups) DJ Software $300 per year IPad, IPhone and iPod (3 additional back ups) $1500 Music Expenses per month. ($2 per song average) Website / Marketing $600 year not including trade shows Not including the music, everything I just listed ~ $15,600 3. Experience in the wedding industry? Priceless. I have, as have many of my professional brethren, seen almost everything imaginable. Had parts break you pray don't break the day of an event. The client didn't know. People think anyone with an ipod and a stereo can DJ. No, they can play music, on shuffle. No cohesion, no interaction, no disaster prevention or recovery, no backups (Hardware, music and entertainers [what if I get sick or hurt? do I have someone to cover your event?]) No 25 years in the business and most importantly, no guidance on when to do certain events like the cake cutting, or speeches, the dollar dance, how to keep people around as long as possible and make them forget how long and tiring the day is for everyone. 4. Pre-planning. We take our own, unpaid time, to create contracts, planners, website, do online and print marketing. I would say I do at least 10 hours a month of just marketing / website updating / social media and online research for what is trending. All unpaid. 5. We covered Equipment and a little about the Entertainer's experience, what about that day? Let's go over a typical wedding timeline. Initial contact is made, we discuss things, usually about half an hour or so of either email or phone calls, selling ourselves and the value we offer compared to the others that do it for $200 a wedding. Client says YES and a meeting is arranged. Whatever is convenient for the client. This takes the DJ time. Prepping all the needed paperwork, planning a location, driving to said location, usually about an hour of Q&A session with the couple. Answering every question they can think of and guiding them in places they never even thought of. This whole thing, assuming an hour meeting, and hour of round trip drive time and all the preplanning takes about 4 hours of work. Now we are up to 4.5 hours of work before the wedding even happens, plus an hour of fuel usage, so theres $15-20. Misc communications before the event, confirmations, additional questions and guidance, music acquisition for the special requests of the couple. usually 3-4 hours, most of which is spent searching for the specific version of a song and getting the songs sync'd to all the drives / devices. now we are up to, say 8 hours to keep it simple. Still, no wedding day yet. A few days before the wedding. I spend an hour testing my equipment, Yeah, it may have been used the weekend before, but things happen, it's machinery. Stuff Breaks for no apparent reason. Limit the chance of surprises on wedding day. Now 9 hours. WEDDING DAY! Assuming a normal wedding day timing, I'm up at 9. Going over the packing for the day. Nice clothes, setup / tear down clothes, PC, music drive / backup, trailer hooked up, gas tank full, truck ready, paperwork with me, all communications printed? GO! On the road to be on site by noon (with a cushion in case there is a breakdown). Setup and test the system before anyone gets there, adjusting for room acoustics, including how bodies will change the sound. Often times I have to setup and run sound for the ceremony with a second system then tear it down and hustle back to the reception to start cocktail music at 4. 5 pm Dinner starts, toasts, etc. 7 pm dance starts and goes until 12, tear down and repack everything, another hour, headed for home about 1 am. Finally home 2 am. Nice long, 17 hour day. add to that the 9 hours of previous work, I am at 26 hours for one wedding. 6. Operational costs of the wedding and meetings. Music Purchases - usually $20. Food and drink (incl meeting) - $40, Fuel - $40. Out of pocket total NOT including equipment depreciation or if something breaks, $100. $200 paid for a wedding, minus the operational costs - $100. Hourly wage. $3.84 per hour. Best of luck to you finding someone for that price. Make sure they won't show up with an iPod and a boombox.
