After 43 years, my mother is moving from NYC to RVA next month. Can anyone recommend a reliable mover?? So far, she has received wildly different estimates!

These guys are not "fancy" but they are hard working, efficient, and reliable enough that we've used them three times now with minimal problems or hassles. Athletic Movers(800) 334-0204 2958 West 8 th Street...See More

We used Moishe's moving from Chicago to Iowa City. They were reliable and fairly priced, and they originated in NYC. http://www.moishes.com/

Wowzers! The end of an era! We used Oz Movers & had a great experience. I don't know their record for interstate moves... http://www.ozmoving.com/?gclid=CL2OkOHd_7QCFcef4AodgzUA9Q

We used Ben and his team and they are AWESOME. We have used them twice in richmond and you CANNOT best the price or quality for just the labor part of moving. https://richmond.craigslist.org/lbs/5025325991.html
Can any one suggest a moving company? Looking to move my parents from Florida to winchester......

Cliff Marble571-252-0476. Has helped/moved several people here in Middleburg. Moving experience over 20 years short or long distance!

We used Atlas Van Lines (booked through an independent agent in Atlanta - "Atlantic Relocation Systems") to move from Atlanta to VA. Very happy with them. We purchased additional insurance for our furniture, and paid extra for a piano to be moved. The price was quoted before hand and there were no surprises. Only one item was damaged and they refunded its entire value. PM me if you want more info.
Peter J. replied:
Agree with Stephanie Bates. Nightmare. They broke things, took twice as long...doubled the bill and we had to pay it...will never use them again. Crew couldn't speak English....
Recommendation for professional movers? I'm moving from Richmond to DC pretty short notice and my new job is giving me an allowance for relocation, so I thought...

Moxie.
Go3Team replied:
Please, please for the love of your chosen deity do not use Uhaul.
benuski replied:
I looked at moving help through Uhaul, but once you combine the cost of the truck with the cost of the helpers and the cost of renting supplies (many helpers don't come with supplies), getting a fully insured full-service moving company was the same price. Moxie Movers were amazing, they moved us out of our Carytown apartment to our new house in Mechanicsville for under $400, including tip. A lot of our furniture is crappy particle board stuff, and nothing was broken throughout the entire move. Plus, the moving company supports their art studio in Scott's Addition. They're great! EDIT: They're mostly local, but their website says they will do long-distance for apartments, so it may still be worth giving them a call.
BlueXTC replied:
Two Men and a truck. Very reasonable and very careful. Local is by the hour and to DC would be a quote. They pack, load and unload.
pistol_tits replied:
Moxie Movers all the way
Fatty_McBiggn replied:
I can't tell you who to use, but I can strongly recommend against Reeds (Atlas) as your carrier. They were the pack up end of a relocation to Texas I had, I ended up getting a paycheck from helping load the truck and nearly 8K in damages at the other end from their crappy work.

You could stay here and car pool with [this guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/rva/comments/3 iulg3/chesterfield_man_has_one_of_americas_longest/)

We used commonwealth movers out of gaithersburg to move us from DC to richmond. Found them on angieslist. They were *amazing* - so fast, so careful, polite. Average pricing. Seriously can't recommend them enough.

You can get moving helpers through Uhaul if you just need help unloading. http://www.uhaul.com/MovingHelp/

This guy works for Kloke movers but he moves people on the side too. Kloke moved us and then he helped with some additional moving later. <ricky.lanejr81@gmail.com>

We used Kid Glove Movers and really liked them. We packed ourselves, but given the choice, I would have loved for them to pack us!
Mary G. replied:
We have packed ourselves both times that we have moved and I'm glad that we did just because you know what is in what box and you tell the movers where to put it. We used movers and it the best thing you can do for your self. We used Ricks Moving & Storage both times
Does anyone know a good wildlife removal company? I've got some squirrels scurrying around in the attic. Any recommendations are welcome.
lunar_unit replied:
I've gotten rid of them before by going into the attic, scaring them out through the hole they chewed and then blocking that hole. This time of year, the squirrels are looking for warm spots to weather the winter. They can be tenacious in claiming and holding on to their cozy attics.
AllTheRoadRunning replied:
I'll rent my cats to you. I swear the little shits watch me while I sleep and plot strategy for taking me out.
fordtempwn replied:
You need to figure out how they are getting in there in the first place, cuz once they find a nice warm place to chill they will keep coming back to it. Get one of those have a heart traps from Lowes with some peanut butter. Close up the hole you've got somewhere and get rid of the unwelcome visitors. I used Universal Exterminating recently for a supposed mouse sighting at a rental property and they were cheap/friendly/responsive enough.
dr_nerdface replied:
go up there and mark your territory properly.
Charlesinrichmond replied:
deal with it btw - a squirrel in the house can cause awesome amounts of damage. Just happened to my neighbor
Shad0wembrace replied:
My old school teacher just used http://richmond.crittercontrol.com/ and really liked them. Apparently they went up and removed the nests, the animals, and then closed all the holes and areas they were getting in by.
Sid6po1nt7 replied:
Get a trap & put some peanut butter in there a bait. You may have to get a couple of them but they'll be out in a day or so. Drive to a park or forested area a mile or so out & release them. Oh and keep the cages covered while in transport. Got rid of mine that way.
e11ff replied:
Pros will charge an arm and a leg to remove it, chase it out the hole and block it off with chicken wire.
therealphred replied:
Might try moth balls, heard they work. Granted I don't know how practical that is for you
alfromrva replied:
Thanks for the answers, guys. I think I'll call Critter Control because I may have heard some mice as well, and there are some trees adjoining my house so the squirrels will probably have to be relocated.
