Downtown Silver Spring is an oasis for coffee joints. A few of my favorites are: [Bump n' Grind](https://bumpngrind.co), [Kaldi's](https://www.kaldissocial.com), [Zed's](https://www.silverspringdowntown.com/go/zeds-cafe), and [Kefa](https://www.yelp.com/biz/kefa-cafe-silver-spring).

I would recommend Mayorga roasters. They roast off of Rockville and they sell at Costco as well. I tried Black Lion as well and it was pretty decent as well.

I don’t think anyone has recommended Tout de Sweet in Bethesda or Lavande in Rockville—my family’s favorites. Both have amazing pastries!

I recommend Sip at C Street if you find yourself up around Laurel. Before them, hadn't found anyone local whose espresso beat my Nespresso machine.

Assuming you and I have the same idea of "good coffee" -- *i.e.* well-roasted, well prepared black coffee, here is my list: 1. Vigilante. It's a bit far (Hyattsville) but best roastery in the area. 2. Bump N Grind, Silver Spring 3. Kefa Cafe - Silver spring library 4. Little Red Fox (Upper NW DC... Van Ness Area) 5. Philz -- Just opened in downtown Bethesda 6. Ceremony -- Don't think it's open yet in Bethesda, but I've had at their annapolis location and it's great.

One place not mentioned, but probably not in MoCo so understandable, is Dublin Coffee Roasters out in Frederick.

I agree with someone else’s comment about Black Lion Cafe in Traville. While not coffee, their chai tea latte is one of the best I’ve had.

[Java Nation](http://java-nation.com/) serves Swing's and is tasty!

Philz just opened up in downtown Bethesda. They only do roasted coffee, and it’s really good. I recommend getting a Tesora Philz way (medium cream, medium sugar).

The single origin coffees I've tried at Takoma Beverage Company in Old Town TP have all been exceptional. Highly recommended.

[Stella’s Bakery](http://www.stellasbakeryonline.com/) in North Bethesda makes a fantastic cappuccino that pairs great with any of their awesome pastries. My dad and I like to stop by there from time to time.

Kefa Cafe and Kaldi's in downtown Silver Spring are both great and locally owned

[Nagadi Coffee Roaster](http://www.nagadicoffee.com) is a one of a kind experience that you should check out. Only open on Saturdays, as they mainly roast for other shops, but definitely worth stopping by for a drink or to buy a bag.
