Freewheeler bicycle center in Davis (703 2 nd St, Davis, CA 95616). Had them give me solid and no-string-attached advice a few times. They replaced my back wheel after the axel broke and was rebuilt 2 x times (my fault) and were key in telling me 'the wheel needs to be replaced'. Reasonable/competitive price, fast turnaround, and competent bike mechanics.

These kinds of posts are hard. What is "affordable" for you? FWIW Mike's Bikes downtown is great. If you're in the Natomas area Natomas Bike Shop was always very good to me as well.

There's plenty of shops around (I'd recommend Bicycle Business on Freeport or Edible Pedal on Liestal), but if you can, take your bike to the [Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen](http://sacbikekitchen.org). They won't do the maintenance, but they will walk you through anything your bike might need. It's dirt cheap ($5 to use their tools), and at the end of it, you'll know what to look for yourself -- and how to fix it.

Addison's bicycle reparium on S St. Just read an article about it in the SN&R.

Check out Mad Cat Bikes. I used to take my bike there for parts and maintenance when I was still in the hobby. They do a nice job. From my experience, stay away from places like Performance Bicycles.

City Bike Works in downtown (K-street I think?) is another good one! Lots of friendly and helpful people.
