Meter on irrigation water system? Hi St. Pete.
Does anyone have a meter on their irrigation system? I am looking for ways to reduce my sewer bill charges. Is it...

Yes. You can get an irrigation only water meter. We have had one for 3 years. There is an explanation of the service on the city website. With the irrigation meter you avoid the sewer and trash collection portion of the bill. But you pay monthly for a meter. https://www.stpete.org/billing_and_collections/utility_billing/utility_rates.php#irrigation On our street there is no reclaimed water available. When I went to the water department to ask about reclaimed water, the city engineer said to run a new line would be tens of thousands of dollars and I would need to get 50% of the homeowners on the street to agree to split the cost.

Yes, you can have two meters. I was looking to do the same thing as my regular water is used for irrigation. I have terrible FGUA and they quoted me 3 k for a new meter. Cheaper to dig a well. You have to call your water people and get a quote. It might only be a few hundred for another meter.

Realtor here. Wells or reclaimed are what most folks use to irrigate. Reclaimed is unlimited use, just a flat monthly fee. Wells cost whatever it takes to run and maintain the pumps and well heads.

To answer original question, no there are no meters on potable (house) water to split the water/sewage charge. Pro tip: get a well. Cost is \~ 600 if you have someone do it for you, much cheaper if you do it yourself with a buddy. You never pay for well water and the plants/lawn like it way better than potable water.

Don't run your irrigation off of tap water. The City has Reclaimed water over the vast majority of the city. Otherwise have a well installed.

We have shallow wells. Out water bill went down by half when we put them in.

Are you irrigating with tap water? If so, that’s silly. You can install a well or use reclaimed water: http://www.stpete.org/water/water_services/reclaimed_water.php

TIL you can get a meter for your reclaimed water usage. Never knew that.
