I am looking for recommendations for local bakeries that make a good gluten free cake. Thanks!

Curt D. replied:
Gluten Free Grommet in Saratoga, and Imagine It Bakery in Santa Clara.

I'm not very well educated on the differences between wheat free, flourless and gluten free, but Icing on the Cake makes excellent desserts and has a page with "alternatives." Maybe they have an option that works? http://www.icingonthecakebakery.com/sweet-alternatives.php

Hello WG neighbors who is your favorite local bakery? I need to order a cake for my daughter's upcoming birthday. Looking for good quality ingredients, quick turnaround...
Christine L. replied:
Susie Cakes taste amazing.
Julia M. replied:
Icing on the Cake in Los Gatos or Susie Cakes
Cathy S. replied:
I love Nothing Bundt Cakes to. You could probably get a cake and Bundtinis to give to the kids. I've also seen those cupcake cakes at Safeway that seem to be a great idea for a kids party.
Georgette S. replied:
Dicks Bakery, burnt almond cake! The best!

We just got our cake at Whole Foods and it was delicious. We first tried one while attending another kids party, and I had no idea they did kids cakes. It was $55-$65 for a Frozen cake that served 20 people. It was so good. We'll be getting all our cakes there from now on!

Can someone recommend me a bakery for birthday cakes? I don't need a fancy looking super decorated cake, just one thats made with high quality ingredients and tastes...
d30f2n replied:
Jeez I don't know what was wrong with that other guy. Peter's Bakery is known for their burnt almond cakes, and it's one of the best cakes I've ever had that wasn't too sweet
Cow_of_Doom replied:
Peters bakery is a local favorite. I think peter had a brother named Dick that had his own bakery with similar recipes. I could be misremembering though. I like the cakes from Lunardi’s as well.
IToldYouNotToCall replied:
Sweet Passions Bakery - very small shop on Alum Rock Ave (one block east of 101) but their cakes are so good. Not as much focus on fancy decoration, just good ingredients with a variety of options in size, shape, filling, icing, and cake flavors [Sweet Passions Bakery](https://sweetpassionsbakery.com/)
dailowarrior replied:
Peter's Bakery in Alum Rock. Best burnt almond cake in the area (in my opinion)
pashafisk replied:
Sweet Tooth Confections in Santa Clara is a personal favorite. They can also do a lot more than cakes if you ever need.
hopskipjumpacross replied:
Safeway actually makes pretty good cakes. Reasonable price. Definitely not fancy. There’s also a bakery on Kooser and Meridian by the Hallmark store and OSH. Forgetting name... French sounding.... anyway, they can do fancy, but you order what you want; so you can say “just whip cream frosting, no decor”... I think any custom bakery can make a “plain” cake.
Se7en72 replied:
Since Dicks is still closed my next go to is Safeway
Miya81 replied:
Interesting I haven't seen a mention of 85° Bakery. Are their cakes too sweet? I can only speak for the strawberry filling with sponge cake which is not overly sweet/sugary to the taste. Avoid Goldilocks at all costs. It is some diabetes inducing cake that could make any sweet tooth lover sick. :(
nofishies replied:
At this time of year Pete's pumpkin burnt almond cake is less sweet
PennyPantomime replied:
Paris baguette in the century mall here on the east side. They have beautiful cakes and pastries ! Also Peters bakery ! Really tasty, and they can add decorations if you ask !

Alexander's Patisserie makes excellent chocolate cake
chupacabraiii replied:
You realize you just gave this sub a list of things you want in the price range you want, and are asking us to do the legwork? I know i'll get downvoted for this but fuck off and find that shit yourself.
Aye-curumba replied:
I have had to order two cakes recently. One was from Pink Elephant bakery which is this little bakery on the East Side. A family member recommended it and the cake was good! Not too sweet at all. I’m not a sweets person and I even enjoyed this cake. I brought someone who could speak Spanish with me to help but there is 1 employee who can speak English too. Another cake I ordered was just from a Lucky’s bakery, in particular, the one off Santa Teresa and Blossom Hill. Both cakes were good and people who normally don’t eat cake, came back for seconds.
TheOpus replied:
My family is a fan of [La Patisserie](http://lapatisserie.net/) in Cupertino. The black forest cake is a go to for birthdays around here. They also fit your requirements of not too sweet and have a wide selection.
Doggobah replied:
I’ll suggest Flower Flour and Sugar Butter Flour, if you’re into intensely chocolatey cakes!
SomethingaboutAvs replied:
Susie Cakes in willow glen is pretty good. They have a lot of different cakes to choose from but don't get the celebration one unless you like super sweet. They have a website you can checkout their flavors or custom cakes too.
Ticklegrass replied:
If you’re a fan of Paris baguette, I think Euro Delights Bakery would be a good alternative for you. Aside from the more basic mocha, chocolate, mango mousse cakes, their most popular combination (and my personal favorite) is lychee with strawberries. Happy cake eating! :)
gilligvroom replied:
Every birthday cake I got growing up was from Wilson's Bakery near Monroe! They also have fabulous donuts, but it's been awhile since I've been there as I've moved around the country a lot for work!
Thegreatgarbo replied:
Icing on the Cake in LG for the win. Best cake quality, choices and the decorators are art school graduates.
Dessert places in South Bay? Hey I’ve been having trouble finding a good dessert place here. Most places I’ve found through Google and yelp are either- ice cream...

I don't know how it compares to the place in San Diego, but we're partial to The Sweet Corner on Story Rd.

Cocola Bakery
Anonymous replied:
That place in San Diego sounds amazing! Putting it on my list of reasons to move there lol. My favorite dessert place in the country is Veniero's in New York City. You can order at the bakery counter to take things home, or you can sit down and be served by a waiter. Plus, all the desserts I've had there are amazing. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyplace like that around here, or anyplace with even half as good bakery desserts. I've lived in the Bay Area for almost five years now, and I'm less than trilled with the food options around here. Gonna follow this though to see if anyone has any good suggestions!
MsNewKicks replied:
Paris Baguette and 85C Bakery are solid choices. My BFF recently got me onto Elite Bakery in Union City though it's technically not in the south bay.
candb7 replied:
Nothing Bundt Cakes in Sunnyvale (though their selection is somewhat limited to...well you know) Edit: Given the response below, somewhere like the Creamery in downtown Palo Alto might be good. It's not only dessert but there are a ton of different, enormous desserts there and it's sit-down.
joggerboy18 replied:
Icing on the Cake in Los Altos is great. Also Sprinkles in Palo Alto (Stanford Mall) if you like cupcakes
DRabb1t replied:
La Patisserie in Cupertino has some good stuff (in addition to great cakes). Dick's Bakery in San Jose (Hamilton and Meridian) was great, and is supposedly reopening soon (I have seen some evidence of construction -- they had a fire a couple years ago).
Kelv37 replied:
I haven't found anything like extraordinary desserts up here. Alexander's Patisseri in Mountain View has a good selection but limited seating and it's buy at the counter then find a seat style unlike ED.

I recommend: * [La Patisserie in Cupertino](https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-patisserie-cupertino) * [L'epi D'or Bakery in Cupertino](https://www.yelp.com/biz/l-epi-d-or-bakery-cupertino-2) * [Sugar Butter Flour in Sunnyvale](https://www.yelp.com/biz/sugar-butter-flour-sunnyvale) * [Mexico Bakery in San José](https://www.yelp.com/biz/mexico-bakery-san-jose-2) * And last but not least.....[Peters' Bakery in San José](https://www.yelp.com/biz/peters-bakery-san-jose) This is arguably the most famous and best bakery in San José, if not the whole South Bay or even Bay Area. Their burnt almond cake is fucking ethereal. I think these place should satisfy your criteria. They are made-to-order cake places BUT you can also find pastries and small cakes as well. Also, FWIW, i tell people to haul @$$ to [Anh Son Bakery in San José](https://www.yelp.com/biz/anh-son-bakery-san-jose?osq=anh+son). There's no seating and it's cash only, but you will not find better croissants and freshly baked breads for a cheaper price anywhere else. Trust me on this.

Paris Baguette Branches all over the Bay Area. Delicious.

Esther's German Bakery has some dope ass cakes and sell them by the slice. I'm not even a dessert person and I crave their chocolate cheesecake.

Anyone know a good bakery in Ft. Collins that delivers to Rams Pointe? My daughter's bday is next week.
Kristal B. replied:
http://buttercreamcupcakery.com/ I've never used their delivery service, but I've heard great things about it. My daughter loves their cupcakes!
Stephanie S. replied:
They charge $12 for delivery but are AWESOME to work with. They require 24 to 48 hours notice. I have used Butter Cream Cupcakery a lot over the last couple of years. My son absolutely LOVES it!!!:)
Sabrina M. replied:
As a former FoCo resident, I loved Buttercream Cupcakery! They have some amazing flavors and are very easy to work with! If you have a friend of hers that can pick up the cupcakes that could save on the delivery charges. They have two locations -one off Horsetooth and College and one down in Old Town!
Judy K. replied:
Mary's Mountain Cookies on College Ave....they have awesome cookies and they deliver...I think it is only about $4 for delivery to campus area. They even have candles
Cynthia B. replied:
Butter Cream Cupcakes will deliver and you should order ahead so can pick your mix of flavors and size of cupcake. Fiona's Bakery is awesome but they do charge a delivery fee. Can do a custom cake.
