Looing for a conservative dentist around South Pasadena/Alhambra area. Rec's anyone? Does anyone have experience with someone they'd call a "conservative" dentist?...

No, but I have a dentist for you who will lecture about the flat tax, warn about thug culture, and tell you parables of socialist professors. I wouldn't say he's cautious about excessive drilling though.

If you're willing to travel to Pasadena, check out Dr. Joe Elmassian. Hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. Although he also does cosmetic work, he won't cap an otherwise healthy tooth. He did my wisdom tooth extraction with only a local anesthetic and it wasn't too bad. True story: I asked him once, "why did you become a dentist?" He replied that he was "going to be a doctor, but as a dentist, I never have to tell anyone that they are going to die." I've got a great dentist in Long Beach. Which is a helluva drive from Pasadena. This is the least fancy place I've ever been in and it's great. Took me 12 years in LA to find a dentist I like.

Ellis Wong in Hollywood is awesome. Been going to him since I was a kid. Family rarely feels anything when it comes to procedures that typically result in a bit of pain. He also has great reviews on yelp. The only caveat is that he's really expensive.

I see Taormina at http://www.tcdentaloffice.com/ in Glendale. I explained how I had some bad experiences with dentists. I've yet to have a mandatory "deep cleaning" there like some of the factory shops.

Dr Kanda, in la Canada. Been using him for a decade now, never any salespressure or excessive procedures.

I suggest you just tell your dentist exactly what you want. Tell him to only do the absolute essential treatment, and nothing that is cosmetic. Ask him to explain the pros and cons, and the risks of not going through the treatment. If he evades you and doesn't provide satisfactory answers, find another dentist.

My dentist can be conservative and she'll listen to your concerns. I went in for a filling replacement (which takes out a tiny bit more before re-filling) and all was great because she goes about trying to save teeth from excessive work if you don't want it. Well that tooth broke one day because it really should have had a crown to begin with. She ended up taking the price of the filling off the price of the crown. Dr. Gorelik - sorry, she's awesome but in West LA. 11377 W Olympic Blvd Suite 125, Los Angeles, CA 90064 Trident Dental Clinic.

Does anyone know of a dentist or ortho who is good at making mouthguards for teeth grinding? My current dentist is not good at it, and after 5 attempts I gave up with them.

Most of the dentists in Pasadena are liberals. Good luck.

Dr. Karimyan in Pasadena, by USC Keck. She or her team of dentists take the most conservative approach to get the job done while trying not to disturb the natural tooth.

Dr. Goodman in BH. He's pricy, but at least he isn't drill happy.
