Look into dental insurance. It was going to be $8400 each for my twins. I bought Delta Dental ins and it went down to $1400 per kid. The insurance was around $180 per year.

Does anyone have any feedback for a good orthodontist for a teen, and what kind of ballpark cost are braces now?
Lisa P. replied:
Last I heard, the "standard" treatment was almost two years and about $5000 (before insurance, if you have any), although there are a lot more treatment options than there used to be. We like Ballard Orthodontics in Sandpoint -- he was willing to work with us on a few unconventional issues.:)
Alyssa D. replied:
Depends how extensive but it's approx 4,000 for metal and invisaline is about 6,000 if I remember correctly. You can look into Carecredit.com for whatever your insurance won't cover if you can't afford them. I've had care credit for 2 years for my vet bills and you can use it for your family too. I like it because yes, it is a credit card but you can only use it for medical stuff so no temptations of using it for things that aren't (IMHO) as important.
Sheila H. replied:
Still close to 2 years. We go to Ballard Ortho
Betsi R. replied:
We love Dr Hintz! He was very reasonable and took payments and I do not believe they charge interest
Lisa P. replied:
I've seen adverts for 6 months max, but it's usually longer, depending on the amount of change necessary (due to a crowded mouth, bite issues, etc) and how committed a person is to wearing retainers afterwards. Skye had braces for a year when she was 8 (extra tooth caused trouble) with Dr. Hintz. He's also good but more "by the book" and wanted to put her in regular braces as a teen again for a couple years. She balked. Dr. Ballard tried a few things that helped. Gabe had braces for only a year but his teeth weren't that bad.
Lisa P. replied:
And they all take payments, no interest, spread out (since the treatment is obviously spread over time), and insurance (if any). Dr. Hintz has a Sandpoint office, too, but his main Hayden location is where we had to go for anything major. We liked them both! Dr. Ballard is just more willing to experiment (but don't tell him I told you that. ;) )
Roni C. replied:
