Tattooist Recommendations? I'm looking at getting a solar system sleeve done on my arm and would like some recommendations about where to go. I've already heard of...

There are *so many great tattoo shops* in town. Here are discussions about this in the past: http://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/search?q=tattoo+recommendation&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

Asking for tattoo recomendations in Portland is like asking where is the best coffee. You're going to get all sorts of info, much of it confusing and contradictory. My best advice is do some initial research. Find some portfolios of local artists on-line, and find someone who has a style that you like. Then make an appointment to talk to them, see if your idea and their style meshes, and go from there. But most importantly, find someone you are comfortable with. Good luck. Edited: I don't know if this is your first tattoo, but I approached it as if it was. My apologies if it comes off in the least bit condescending.

I don't think you're going to want to go to scapegoat for a solar system tattoo. I can't really see any of their artists doing anything like that. Google portland tattoo shops. each shop's website will show you the artists that currently work there. It will have a few photos of their work and a link to their instagram, which will have a lot more of their work. Once you find an artist who's style you like for what you want, email them.

i'm a guy that's from out of town. i've have a ton of friends that have gotten stuff (including myself) have gotten ink from igor at tigerlilly. usually need to wait two or three months with him but he's worth the wait. i've also gotten ink done at oddball from michael. both were willing to work with me being that i'm on the other side of the continent. excited that i would just give them an outline of what i expect, then let them run wild. very satisifed with what turned out. i would get ink from both of them again in a heart beat

[This guy](http://www.jessecarrtattoo.com/) has tattooed a bunch of friends of mine (mostly from scooter clubs) for at least a decade. Likely longer, but that's how long I've known of him. I've always been really impressed with his work, and I've seen ten year old pieces on friends that still look good.

Scapegoat, as you've already mentioned, is a great place to start if you're looking for a lady artist. Silje Røe Hagland (http://www.tattoosbysilje.com) and Allyson Bennett (http://www.allysonbennett.com) are both at Scapegoat and are pretty amazing.

Eric S. Quale at Grizzly Tattoo. Tyler (owner) from there is awesome as well.

There's awesome lady artistry going on at Oddball Tattoo as well

If you're willing to consider a dude, Matt Shaver at Pussy Cat in Milwaukie is also awesome. He's done most of my tattoos, and I couldn't be happier with him and his work.

Does anyone know of a tattoo artist who does good work and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for small tattoos?
Lexi A. replied:
Dave Brown at Lady G's near Los Favs: www.tattoosbydave.com/ he charges $45 an hour and a small tat probably shouldn't take longer than that. I got my 4 small tats in one day cost me $90
