Hotel recommendations for San Francisco and LA please. Or at least suggest good areas. Cheers.
Sue K. replied:
Apparently so! I haven't forgotten him. Use Hotwire.com for sfo hotel. Union square, embarcadero or nob hill are nice areas. Now where in LA do you want to be near by?
Sue K. replied:
for SFO hotwire works pretty good for me. I've stayed at Hilton for only $80 a night at Union Sq. (but that was a long time ago..... I'm sure u cannot find that kinda price for SFO anymore) You just need to know your stars, area and how much ur willing to pay. You end up with pretty good deals! I've stayed in a really nice small clean boutique hotel near chinatown! The area was consider financial district/embarcedero. it was only 2 blocks away from chinatown so eating was convenient! For you, I'll suggest Union Square where all the shops are at. (JW Marriot is there, but it was so so when i went cos they were renovating at that time)
Sue K. replied:
Be sure to take a cab and go to: http://www.mumssf.com/menus.html they have all you can eat japanese shabu! The rib eye beef is good! and if you can drink, for $20 more (i think) its all you can drink beer or sake!

motel 168 is a hit or miss endeavor (for me when I was at one over near Waigaoqiao free trade zone it was an insanely big "miss").
If you don't care about size, and only want a place to stay that is nice but cheap, check out the hotel Ibis in Yu gardens. The rooms are tiny as hell, but the windows are properly sealed, everything is clean, water is nice and hot when you want it to be, and the heater/AC works like a charm. On top of that, you have some awesome authentic dumplings at your doorstep, as well as mini-marts, ajisen-ramen, staurbucks, mcdonalds...anything you want. The metro station is not a very long walk from there too. I stayed here for a little less than a week right before moving into my own apartment, and it was a fantastic experience.
..again though, only go there if you don't mind extremely small hotel rooms. They are really, really tiny (although the bed itself is good enough size, queen or double).

Whereabouts? The first time I came to Shanghai I stayed in a hostel right near People's Square/Tomorrow's Square called [Mingtown Youth Hostel](http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/MINGTOWN-People-s-Square-Youth-Hostel/Shanghai/28188). It was really convenient - about 3-4 minute's walk from People's Square subway station, literally a minute away from the JW Marriott.
I had a double room and it was super comfortable and very cheap (around 150-180 RMB per night). Had to share a bathroom/shower but that was about it.
They have a nice little bar there too, with a half decent beer selection and the food's not too bad, either. Lots of foreign travellers and backpackers milling around the place too, so it's easy to make friends. They've got free wifi for guests, too, though I never got it working.
My girlfriend's parents visited recently and they stayed at the [Blue Mountain Hostel](http://www.bmhostel.com/en/Index.html) in LuWan. There's a subway station (Luban Lu) literally 30 second's walk from the front door of the hostel, but it isn't quite as centrally located as Mingtown. The rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly. Free internet and a nice little common room and all that jazz.

I'd recommend you to check on www.ctrip.com which has a wide range of choices. If you expect a nice English speaking hotel, it'll probably cost around 500 per night. My grandfather in law was here last week, we booked Howard Johnson for him and it was pretty good. Some chain hotels in SH such as Home Inn, Motel 168 and Hanting, usually cost less than 200 per night. Hope the info above could be helpful.
Which are the nicest hotels located in downtown? Pls recommend..

The Grand Hyatt in Jinmao Tower is pretty nice. I stayed there a few times before I lived here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jin_Mao_Tower#Grand_Hyatt_Shanghai
Charles C. replied:
The Shanghai Park Hyatt in the nearby Shanghai Tower is also great, though I've never stayed. It's the 2 nd highest hotel in the world (the Grand Hyatt in Jinmao Tower is #3 now)

LumpyLump76 replied:
Hong Kong is not that big. The subway gets you to Disneyland from Hong Kong island in about 30 minutes, and Kowloon/Hong Kong also have a lot of things to do and see. It's even closer if you stay near the Airport I believe, and IIRC, the hotels near Airport have the lowest costs in terms of points. IHG/SPG/Hyatt/Hilton/Marriott all have hotels in Hong Kong, with IHG offering the most choices. Use Awardmapper.com to help you look.

haven't been to SHDL, only can tell you about HKDL. If you are going to visit HK, then you should just stay in town, Hyatt/Hilton/SPG etc, and take the MTR to the park. very easy commute. HKDL is the smallest park in the system, can be done in 1/2 day. have low expectations.

I want to warn you that Shanghai Disneyland may be a little too "Chinese". Millions of rural people all over China finally have some money so they're going to go on the first vacation of their life with no prior experience or idea how to travel or behave. The no. 1 destination is Disneyland. Let's just say that me and my expat friends won't touch that place.

www.buddydog.net is where we send ours, have been doing so for years, always happy with them. Note, ask them early as they fill up around holiday times. Also note, you'll need all your dog's paperwork/vaccine stuff up to date, but you'll need that for any kennel.

I would also recommend Buddy Dog. We sent our rescue dog there before we could have her at home. Brilliant service with a good outdoor area.
