I called dry basement Solutions. Curtis came out he was awesome. And very knowledgeable. Unfortunately I could not afford his price. I have no doubt that the work they laid out would stop the flooding.

we had a similar situation and used EPIC lawncare. they built up the ground so the slope went away from the house and they installed a french drain underground so that water went away from the house, as well.

It is very helpful to go outside right during a rainstorm and observe exactly where the water is coming from and where it is going.
After doing that we were able to dig in a couple of berms in our back yard that 80% solve the water problem. They cut across the yard & divert the water around the side of the house.
Once outside (and actually digging & altering the berms while rain was falling--this was very helpful, because where I thought the water would go if I put in such-and-such a berm, and where it actually went, were two VERY different things) it was pretty obvious what the problem was and what could be done to address it.
FWIW the berms we put in at the cost of about 30 minutes of easy digging with a garden shovel are about 10X more effective than the French drains & drainage tile that the previous owners put in the a cost of somewhere around $10K.

Experience went well overall. We got several quotes from companies and they were in the middle of the price ranges we got but they explained things the best. They also made several more suggestions that would improve the outcome without adding too much to the price. They really just seemed like they knew what to do. We are 1 year out from the project and have not had any water in the basement. (Knocks on wood and throws salt over shoulder) I can't remember price of the top of my head. Somewhere in the range of 1-2K

Is the rim of your window wells above ground, and by how much? Is the water coming off the roof (like your gutters aren't working) into them, or it's overflowing from the ground (water piling up)? Is there a water drain inside your window wells?
Homeowner inspections look for a grade of ~3% angle away from your house to move water out. If you have areas around on your house that are sunk down and pool, that's a big problem. If there's not that many, the first step would be just to buy a truckload of dirt and build up the soil height around your house to move water away - that would solve most of your problem and what professionals would suggest.
If your problem is more that your yard is very flat and/or water from further out in the yard is moving water back towards your house, then you've got real problems that are going to require the yard to be re-graded to make the water flow all the way out into the street or where it drains to.

What part of Kansas City are you in? I used to have my own lawn care and landscaping company, helped quite a few homeowners with this same situation. My MIL has the same issue with the back yard sloping towards her home, I told her how to fix it, she's having a someone she knows with a bobcat to come regrade her back yard and add almost 2 feet of dirt around the back side of the house.
