Your best bet, if you're wary, is to go see a DJ (or many) in a live setting. BTD has a listing of where we all have shows, as do other DJ services. Recommendations are great, but nothing is as good as seeing for yourself. It depends on what kind of event you want. You know what you like better than anyone else. Go see some live. Make a list of what qualities you like/don't like in a DJ. That will help you make a much more informed decision than a slew of tagged posts (mine included).
