Hey guys, I'm wanting to be vegan but I was wondering if any of you guys have a grocery store called Hannaford or Price Chopper an if you do do they carry vegan items?...
Hi Audra, if you are concerned about your health you will need to eat plenty of fruit and veg, small portions of seeds and nuts particularly ground flax seed and pumpkin seeds. Keeping your diet alkaline and high magnesium is really important with your heart condition. Processed foods and oils/fats are acid forming and very bad for your heart so really should be avoided. Cucumber, celery, parsley, pears, romaine lettuce, figs, broccoli, cauliflour, bananas, dates, beetroot, sweet potatoes, squashes, cabbage, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries are all very good for you. Potatoes, Rice, millet, quinoa, and cous cous to accompany your veggie meals are all good sources of carbohydrates and other nutrients. Please try to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water especially in the morning, 1.5 to 2 pints 30 minutes to 1 hour before 1 st meal, and 30 mins to 1 hour before each meal, and a glass before bed as this will help your transition, help the detox and help get valuable nutrients around your body. I hope this helps. Thank you and congratulations on the best decision you will ever make

Here in Southern Maine, Hannaford is the major supermarket. Yes, they have vegan items, but even more vegetarian. It depends on the individual store, how large it is and what the local market demands. We live in Brunswick and the store is smaller and does not carry some items that we can get at their larger stores in Portland and West Falmouth. I can't say about Price Chopper.

Audra, this virtual community is an excellent resource (as you can see), but also search for community in the area where you live in an effort to make friends with a local vegan or two. Search Meetup.com for any vegan groups near you. Also, use HappyCow to locate stores and restaurants at www.happycow.net HappyCow's Healthy Eating Guide is a global, searchable, vegetarian dining guide and health food store directory featuring vegetarian and vegan restaurants, natural food stores, vegan bakeries, organic produce farms and delivery, fair-trade shops, vegan shops, and veg travel accommodations.
