Need recommendations for how to dispute a highly stupid IRS ruling (re: IMAGE). Can anyone recommend a firm or a lawyer or accountant who knows about this sort of thing?...

Greg: You might want to give a call to Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts--I wonder if they could recommend someone or help you: Art Law Line: 212.319.ARTS (2787) x1.

Prayers for your personal persistence in the presence of the terrifying phrase: Internal Revenue Service.
John B. replied:
Davis Wright Tremaine has or had an attorney who helped my former employer (a non-profit) with IRS issues. Her name escapes me, but it's a great firm.
Luke H. replied:
Are you a CLMP member? You might consider talking with them. I'm in the process of forming a non-profit, and their Executive Director has been very helpful and responsive--very knowledgable about legal issues: http://clmp.org/about/staff.html
John B. replied:
Just my preference but if I had to combat the IRS I'd start with a lawyer. LaVerne Woods at Davis Wright Tremaine in Seattle is the one to whom I was referring: http://www.dwt.com/people/LaVerneWoods/
