I am wondering if anyone has a vet for tooth extractions and cleaning. We are in Toronto but are willing to drive to avoid the outrageous potential cost presented to us...

I had a good experience at Uxbridge Veterinary Hospital, prices were about 1/3 of what you were quoted!

Allandale Veterinary Hospital in Barrie.... I HIGHLY recommend!

A bunch of us go to Allandale in Barrie. Takes me almost an hour to get there from Keswick but it's worth the drive for me. FWIW, they keep Amicar in stock there now. http://www.allandalevet.com/

Like Lisa Brencis I too would recommend Allandale Veterinary Hospital. Wonderful people and sighthound savey. They saved my retired racer's life with emergency surgery and their costs are fair.

We have had two of our boys, Dash and Marco go through extractions. The work was fantastic, both dogs came home later in the same day. You do a visit prior, they will take a urine sample the day you arrive for surgery and have onsite lab equipment to run most tests. We came in with boys at 8:30-9:00AM the day of surgeries, were able to stay onsite in a waiting room for entire day, boys came out of post op at around 4 or 5PM, and hung out with us on floor or curled up on sofa until they were recovered enough to walk to car. A few days of pain meds and soft food for two weeks, a check up return trip and then blessings to go back to kibble again. Stiches disssolve, the vets know greyhounds, they are very conscientious with follow up calls etc. Total bills where either side of $2600 dollars (very roughly - by memory) with between 18 teeth taken out for Marco or 28 teeth removed for Dash. I repeat - both Marco and Dash are fully back to normal, even doing better than before. I do think they were both living with dental pain prior to the operations. NewHamburg Veterinary Clinic, talk to Dr. Glenn. Its about an hour away from Toronto heading west. I can't recommend them highly enough. Very caring, practical and knowledgeable. 1-519-662-1525, 19 Arnold street New Hamburg, ON N3A 2C6, open 8AM till 5 today, 8AM till 8PM Tuesday thru Thursday, Friday 8AM-5PM and Saturdays 8AM-1PM, IF you would like more details feel free to engage w Juli-Ann Sannuto Rhb who can share specific details. They are very VERY versed with Grey protocols.
Queensway Veterinary Hospital, Simcoe, Ont. (519-428-2630)www.queenswayveterinaryhospital.ca They are very reasonable (approx. $300.00) They are also greyhound savvy. If you decide to come out this way, please feel free to come and visit while you wait to pick up Vader after surgery.

Seconding Queensway. We were quoted $200, plus $50 per extraction, plus a $50 visit for each dog a couple years ago.

Toronto vets really do charge more, in general. I've sent several people to Paul Neilan, and no one has been unhappy. It helps too that he's familiar with greyhounds and their needs.
