I want an apartment. Craigslist has proven a shitty source. Does anybody know a good source? I'm thinking that I might have to go with a realtor...

We found our place via a combination of diligent Craig's list (I'm talking every day I was sending five emails at least and we went to 6-8 open houses a weekend), and apartments.com. Any way you slice it, the no fee style takes persistence and a significant time devotion.
Brad A. replied:
Yeah I have been checking craigslist daily but not apartments.com, I can add them to the hunt, thanks.

I would try your luck online and have multiple realtors. That’s what I did to find the best apt for me in the area.

Brian Coffey of ReMax/Leading Edge in Davis was perfect for me and my husband. He’s worked in Camberville for at least 20 years, maybe closer to 30. We interviewed 3 real estate agents recommended to us by friends. I felt like he listened to what we wanted, as opposed to one who tried to tell us what we should want. He was quite laid back while still being attentive (I find the realty tends to attract overly energetic people). The first time we went out he drove us around Somerville showing us the different neighborhoods. That day he showed us 5 places that spanned our price range and gave us a break down of what we could expect to find at each price point. With his guidance and persistence our first offer was accepted which is extremely rare for his housing market. Good luck in your search!

Two different realtors I worked with who were very responsive and hard-working were Kelsy from Apartment Rental Experts and Hamid from 20 th Century Avon (office by Porter Sq.)

Realtors cost way more than they're worth, buying or renting. Putting in the effort to operate without one is a very good move if you're competent.
