Working with a travel agent saves you $ than booking on your own. As an agent, I work with preferred suppliers that gives me access to rates not available to the public. One of the biggest misconceptions that people have is that you have to pay a travel agent to make your reservations. If you are booking a package- air@hotel, we do not charge a fee. We make our $ on commissions from the hotel and suppliers. A vacation is an investment. Why would you book on your own? You should always use a professional. Airlines, hotels, etc...would much rather talk to a travel agent than the client. Not to mention the extra amenities, discounts, promotions, $$$ you would save. My company is the oldest travel agency in the U.S. We have won several awards. I have been in the travel industry for 20+ years and I am also the president of PTANA, Professional Travel Agents of North America, NE Chapter. Those who tell you to book yourself obviously has never used an agent and don't know the type of services offered.
