My husband and I were reading a lot of forums about this problem last night and most of them suggested replacing this part. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-thrust-bearing-kit-12002213-ap4009132.html. But then they never came back and said if it worked or not. Do you think it's worth a try first?
Looking for an appliance repairman in our area. Anyone know of a dependable one? I have a Maytag washer that's only about 1-2 yrs old that isn't agitating.
Bonnie H. replied:
Glenn Brooks465-5307. We owned Hamilton Maytag for many years and Glenn used to work for us. He lives in Oakland and has his own appliance repair business. He is very knowledgeable, honest and just a really nice young man.

That's probably very easy to fix. The coupler on the motor and transmission is probably broken. If your husband can turn a wrench and follow instructions on the internet he can fix it in about an hour and the part is about $30.00 at Mid America Appliance on Whitten RD

Choates are good - you can also try Farmer's Hardware / Home Furnishings, and if it's still going on, there's a liquidation sale at Barnes Home Store in Somerville.
