Watch Cesar Milan, he would have millions of tips. Most important make sure she is exercising out that anxiety, have the kids walk her so she associates them as part of her pack. Never give attention or treats when fearful (the down side to only positive reinforcement training is you are trying to distract with treats, thus telling the dog it's good to be fearful!)

Realize that the CHILDREN need training as much or more than the dog! Go to this site for great info. http://www.diamondsintheruff.com/toddlersndogs.html People tend to put too much on the dog and not enough on the child!

Susie Wagner has a great post!!!! Thank you!!! You do not have to get rid of her, you have to teach your grandchildren how to behave around her tho!! I just returned from a trip to my daughters house and myself and my daughter had to discipline my grandchildren numerous times for being agressive toward my female doxie. In todays day and time children are not taught to behave. If they do not approach the doxie in a fast or agressive manner it will help tremendously!!!!

Some of them, and I have two, do not like children...When your grandchildren go to you home, put your doxie in a room with a baby door, that's what I have, and they stay there until the children leave. If your grandchildren live with you, that's another story...watch The Dog Whisperer TV show with Cesar (forget his last name)...It is treatable...she is protecting you.

always supervise children with dogs and watch for the signs that indicate the dog is unhappy - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=634002343311465&set=a.553519971359703.1073741825.100001051161865&type=1&theater

Recommendations For Animal shelter Volunteer work Hi all,
I've recently decided that I want to spend a day or so a week volunteering. I'm very much an animal person, so...

I second River's Wish Animal Sanctuary. It's a non-profit with horses, cows, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, bunnies and more.
I'm the volunteer coordinator there, so I'd be the one to talk to about coming in for a tour. Here is some information about us:

While I don't discourage people from going to Spokanimal and the Spokane Humane Society, I've heard from others that they have a lot of volunteers and not enough time slots for everyone. We aren't as known so we don't get as many people as they do. They are all great facilities though and regardless of where you go, you're helping animals in need and that's wonderful.

I have been a volunteer at Spokane Humane Society (working solely with cats) for almost 6 years. I chose this shelter because it's nearest to my home, but also because they are no-kill. While all of the three big shelters — and the smaller animal welfare nonprofits — can use all the volunteers and donations they can get, I knew I couldn't live with not knowing if a cat was adopted or euthanized for being out of time/space at the city/county shelter. My best advice is to visit the three main facilities, and talk to other volunteers, to see which best fits what you are looking to put in and get out of the experience. Each offers a range of opportunities to get involved, from working directly with the animals to helping do outreach, fostering animals in your own home, or helping fundraise and lend other areas of expertise. I hope this helps!
