My parents need to get a power of attorney and will drawn up. They do not want to do it online. Anybody local that can handle this at a reasonable rate?

If you want a quick, inexpensive temporary option I would go to www.uslegalforms.com. At a minimum I would get a will, health care directive, family trust, and designation of a custodian if there are minor children. We used Chad Roggeman in St Cloud, was able to get all of that and more for around $1,000. Even if you go the temporary route to begin with, I would plan on going to an estate planning attorney eventually, just to make sure everything is done right. A lot of times when you use the self-help stuff, an attorney ends up being retained anyways because an error is made and they are asked to try and make the best of the situation. I would get something done ASAP, so many people pass on without a will, costing the families significant time and money.

If they are a licenced contractor in MN, look into the contractors recovery fund. This is how I received funds back for bad work on a deck. You do need to take them to small claims court and get a bid from another company to fix the problems. All it cost me was the small claims court fee and time to get over $1700 back. http://www.dli.mn.gov/ccld/rbcrecovery.asp

Ethne Hedren at Martin & Wagner in Rogers was recommended to us and was very helpful with answering our questions. We unfortunately weren't able to move forward with the process because my mom passed away much sooner then we expected.

I do a lot of estate planning through my firm, Tukey Law, Ltd. My office is located in St. Louis Park but I often make house calls for clients in the St. Michael/Albertville area where I live. Happy to help if you still need it!
