Are there any dog trainers around that can help us re-train our dog??

I took my two year old Aussie to a group class with Nick at True Blue and she's doing tons better. She knew what she needed to do before but would only listen to my husband. He's great at training owners, which is what we ultimately needed. https://www.truebluek9.com/

Jeff Jordan is amazing. We have our lab with him now and bought a finished 2 yr old golden that he trained. He got her jr title and will be teaching my boys how to handle her to get her senior and master title!!!!

Billy Davis often times that can be the case lol! No offense by the way! But I work on the basics constantly. To me a lot of what makes a good dog is obedient dog! Once you get those down it helps progress into the tougher stuff.

Dogs who have spent most of their lives "free from a leash" need a lot of attention to be trained. I worked at an animal shelter for a long time and we had to spend hours a day rehabilitating dogs to obey commands and not to dig or chew or bite. They need a lot of attention and a lot of love. The sad thing is if you can't afford to spend hours with him every day teaching him and training him then he's not a good fit for you. Dogs don't destroy things out of anger like humans do. If he's chewing things when he's alone in the house it's due to boredom or stress. Make sure he has something big enough for him to chew on and play with him. What has helped me in the past is crating- when you leave for an extended period of time like work or church, have him in a crate large enough for him to relax in and leave the tv on- then they don't feel so alone. Dogs chew on things as a way to explore their world. That's why as puppies they like to chew on hands or siblings or whatever looks interesting to them. You can't keep a dog from ever chewing. Encourage good chewing, like a large rawhide and stuffed toys, and discourage bad chewing by using training sprays or a squirt bottle of water when you are home. Bitter Apple Spray is sold at most pet stores and it works wonders and is safe to use on wood and couches and whatnot. It's hard and it takes time- but most of all it takes love. Dogs love unconditionally, they will do what makes you happy. Give him time:)
