I am looking for reliable sources of information on Norse jewelry:casting and metal smithing practices for silver and gold.

The Swedish history museum has their collection photographed on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/historiska/ There is a book called "From Viking to Crusader: The Scandinavians and Europe, 800-1200", edited by Roesdahl and Wilson that has a chapter on mass production in the Viking era. This site ( http://archeurope.eu/index.php?page=the-manufacture-of-viking-oval-brooches ) has a short description and diagram of making an oval brooch. And then there might be "Everyday Products in the Middle Ages: Crafts, Consumption and the Individual in Northern Europe, c. AD 800-1600" by Hansen, Gitte, Steven P. Ashby, and Irene Baug. Using the search terms "medieval" and "non-ferrous metal" in google scholar should bring up some good articles
