Hi, Kathy, Hope u r well! Hi My wife talked to the UAW legal services, and, as was stated on this Group Site in January, the membership will receive a letter when everything is finalized. However, very unlikely that it will happen by the end of March... This applies to "Office legal work" such as wills, OT, Prenups, real estate paperwork and some types of uncontested family matters.....
Steven P. replied:
For those of you who may have missed this, here is the intial negotiation blurb tht was shared early in January. "INFORMATION ABOUT LEGAL SERVICES A new Legal Services Plan was negotiated under the recent UAW-GM, UAW-Ford and UAW-FCA contracts. The new Plan will be a multi-...employer Plan and UAW represented members of GM, Ford and FCA will be eligible to participate in the Plan. Since it will be a new Plan, a Trust must be created, regulatory papers must be filed with the IRS and other steps must be taken before new cases can be opened. . It is hoped that these steps can be completed within the next several months. Once opened, the new Plan will be able to complete “office legal work” such as the preparation of wills, power of attorneys, prenuptial agreements, real estate documents, as well as handle other uncontested family matters and provide advice and draft letters for many types of personal legal problems including credit reporting, probate matters, consumer matters and real estate matters. If something cannot be handled by the “office work benefit”, then the new Plan will be able to provide members with a low cost referral to a private attorney who has signed a contract with the new Plan to provide services to eligible UAW members at a substantially reduced rate. When the start-up date becomes known all local Unions and Retiree chapters will be provided with specific notice."
Does anybody know if retirees still have legal services and if we do where do we go.
Shirley P. replied:

Services by his law firm are provided at a reduced fee for our members. In addition to being at our chapter mtgs Brian is also available every Thursday at UAW Local 900 on Michigan Ave in Wayne. He is there from 1 pm to 4 pm. No appointment necessary.

FYI, my wife (retired WR GM Local 735) has 2 open accounts with GM/Ford Legal services that were setup prior to 12-31-13, and one of the two remains open and is still active. We just had conversations with a rep on Friday.....
