There was also an issue in the past that some inkjet printers had ink cartridges that were region coded such that you could not use ink cartridges bought in Europe for a US printer or vice versa. If you get a printer here, I would check the printers out at different stores, decide on the one you want and then look for the cheapest deal on zap.com. I did that with our printer and ended up saving 75 NIS.

You can order online from one of the stores on zap.co.il

Yitzhak S. replied:
To answer your questions, your shipping company will bring all the packing supplies - boxes, wrapping paper, bubble wrap, tape, etc - and will pack and wrap everything. Once done at the home, it will be taken back to the warehouse, put on a pallet and shrink wrapped or put in a crate and shipped when there is enough freight to fill up a 40' container. This is the standard procedure for shipments. If you want to see all the details, take a look at our sample online proposal > http://aliyahlift.mytinder.com/view/partial-shipment-us-to-il-east-coast--46/login Just sign in with your name or make up a name - it's not important and there is no commitment. I hope this helps you feel better about your fathers move.

Our experience with Strand was PERFECT! We had lots of artwork & other fragile collectibles which they expertly packed. We didn't go to the Port and their Israeli movers here were great! I know of at least 2 other families with the same wonderful experience with Strand!

We are making Aliya this summer. Thinking about buying 220v appliances and shipping them. What appliances would you recommend buying in US?
Caroline G. replied:
You need big bulky transformers for US appliances. They are cumbersome and annoying (fall out a lot). I don't know about big machines - but i wouldn't bother bringing small appliances here.
Zevi H. replied:
Here is the transformer I bought that has given us zero issues. Also check all the other stuff like alarm clocks, humidifiers etc. Many won't be 220 compatible and you might either want to leave it or buy a couple smaller converters for it so you don't have to lug around this monstrosity. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HDVIHIG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_htKYyb52CRSEM

I came on Aliya in the days where we brought toilet paper and diApers. Today you can get everything in Israel and you may be envious of your friends and neighbors who buy beautiful, sleekly designed European appliances in a multitude of colors. The best advice I can give you is to bring everything down to kitchen towels, because when you get here you will find other things to spend money on and no time for shopping!
Alexandra B. replied:
Many people bring their Maytag washer driers and love them. Israeli brands don't compare. BUT if you do be aware that a) they are much bigger than Israeli washer driers and may not fit in your apartment. B) if they break they can be expensive to fix. Parts and service people are hard to come by. It depends a little on where you live whether there are technicians who can work with these brands. C) Israeli water and electricity is different and your machines may not be optimised to cope. That said most American Israelis i know still swear by their maytags.
Nessie N. replied:
Israeli homes/apartments are usually a lot smaller than American counterparts. You might purchase large appliances in the US, only to find they are not right for your Israeli home. So I say buy European brands such as are sold in Israel, after you have compared prices (cost of the US purchase with shipping costs vs purchasing in Israel).
Rafi S. replied:
I'd recommend that you buy your larger appliances in the Israel for 3 reasons. 1) the US stoves, washers, dryers, etc are usually bigger than ones you buy in Israel and therefore, will often not fit in your kitchen, through doors and hallways. The last thing you want is to try and get your washer/dryer through a window. 2)the prices of appliances sold in Israel has come down a lot in the past 5 years and the quality has improved a lot 3) if something goes wrong with you US bought appliance, the warranties of US bought appliances are often not honored in Israel and fixing them are much ore expensive than Israeli bought appliances. Having said this about large appliances, I would recommend that you buy US made small appliances and buy a transformer for those that need it. If you have other questions about to what to bring or general questions about making Aliyah, feel free to contact me. I have an organization called Olim Advisors and we help people plan their Aliyah and settle in Israel quickly and happily. Our website is www.olimadvisors.com

A friend made Aliyah from Canada, but used his oleh rights to bring a shipment of small electricals from the UK (same electricity as Israel and less distance to ship so cheaper) He bought from https://www.johnlewis.com/ & had everything sent directly to the shipping company so was able to claim his UK tax back, as well.

I have too small of a quantity for Sonigo, Kef, etc. UPS and FedEx will pick everything up for NIS1600 per box! Israel Post is NIS760; so I just need to figure out how to get a hold of boxes that they will like, and then how to get things to the Post Office. It might just mean Car2Go, risking a parking ticket, and a lot of heavy lifting.
