Marilyn M. replied:
Riverenza for a little espresso, then off to cousins for breakfast, Petite Provence for lunch and Bent River for dinner! Repeat as needed!
Abigail P. replied:
For service, quality and value, I think Montira's is the best. It would be great in a big city where there are lots of options. Other restaurants are good for our area, some are only still in business because there aren't many options. Some have good food and bad service, others have bad food and good service. It's hard to find one that has both good food and good service. Petite Provence is good too. But not open for dinner.
Joi W. replied:
Bent River. The best

You might get some good answers from /r/oregon. I'd also recommend getting to Hood River, some good beer in that there city. Highly recommend Crux. Also, you could drive the fruit loop, see lots of pretty orchards and stuff. Edit: I meant Pfriem. Don't drive to Bend.

If you are looking for a nice restaurant, check out the Baldwin Saloon. Maryhill Wineries is about a half-hour east of The Dalles on the Washington side.
CharleyPDX replied:
Rivertap in The Dalles has good food and a great tap list.
My wife and I did a great little wine tour between Maryhill and the Dalles -- Maryhill is about 30 mins away to the east, IIRC, and is a must-visit. The drive is really cool along the Gorge. Then work your way back to town on the Washington side and hit up Jacob Williams, then Cascade Cliffs, and finish up with Sunshine Mills which is back in town at the Dalles.

If you're on the Washington side at all I would highly recommend [Syncline Winery](http://www.synclinewine.com/). They are a bit off the beaten path but have an amazing variety of wines and also age some of their wine in giant concrete eggs which I guess is fairly popular in France but due to the cost hasn't caught on in the states. Either way they are pretty cool to look at during the tasting. Also on the Washington side in White Salmon is [Everybody's Brewing](http://www.everybodysbrewing.com/). I tend to prefer them over the crowds that show up a double mountain these days.

I definitely suggest Hood River. There's lots of food, breweries and stuff to do. Lots of shops and that. I believe there is Naked Winery in the area, as well. I doubt that Logdson isn't open to the public except during Zwicklemania which is actually this weekend! http://oregoncraftbeer.org/breweries/zwickelmania-mthoodandthegorge/ Also, if you are up for hiking, there are a TON of great hikes around the area. Lots of beautiful falls to see. Here's a guide: http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Columbia_River_Gorge_Hikes#Catherine_Creek_Area On 84 on the Oregon side in Cascade Locks is Thunder Mountain Brewing, I believe they're open Thurs.-Sun. from 3-9 (?) On 14 on the Washington side is Walking Man Brewing they're open from Weds.-Thurs. 4-9 and Fri.-Sun. 3-9. AMAZING beer. There's Beacon Rock on 14 (WA side) and also some PCT trails. If you end up heading to Walking Man, send me a message.:D

The [Columbia Gorge Discovery Center](http://gorgediscovery.org) in The Dalles is definitely worth a visit.
ottilie replied:
I really like the museum they have just NW of town (not a lot of visitors in winter, but there is history and natural history there). There are some coffee stands I frequent. I've got some crazy coworkers who commute between Portland, and Hood River, White Salmon, and the Dalles. Also - look at the nw hikers field guide or some other maps of local trails. For something short by spectacular, go up the old Columbia highway route and walk around the cliffs. Mt defiance is way too steep to attempt if you aren't in great shape.
ISO, I'm looking for a restaurant that serves good soup as it's all I'm allowed and want to take hubby out for a meal on our anniversary. Suggestions please and thank...

I can not believe there is no place in the Dalles to get pasta! A good Italian meal!! It's unbelievable. We need a good italian restaurant!
Amy W. replied:
Fettuccine Alfredo at Zims is actually killer and they make their own sauce. I hear you about not having a "little Italian place" - I grew up in the Chicago area, where there's one on every corner LOL.
