I prefer the instructions here: http://www.aidan-campbell.co.uk/.../Guide%20 to%20Viking... to using the "duct tape a sock" method you often see. There used to be an even better tutorial online (which I loved to bits) for making even simpler one-piece shoes. Can't for the life of me find it, though.
Rebecca G. replied:
But the one-piece shoe style has patterns similar to these: http://www.texascoritani.com/articles/footwearinireland/

Go to Fleet Feet and get properly fitted. I wear Hoka Cliftons and love them but don't know if tbey are right for you. For shin splints, walk backward on heels about tensteps at a time, For several times a day. Don't know why it helps but it does.
Darryl S. replied:
I would recommend Fleet Feet. A local running store will put you on a tread mill and make sure you are in the correct shoe.
