[Athletic Lab](http://athleticlab.com/) in Cary is our local Olympic weightlifting gym, but a bit of a trek during rush hours. [Life Time Fitness](http://www.yelp.com/biz/life-time-fitness-raleigh-2) on Six Forks has 4 platforms with bumper plates. I go here. Not the ideal setup, but it works. --- I also just moved here and these are the only two spots I found. I'm going to resurrect my storage unit gym soon:)

I moved to Vancouver 1st May and I would like to go on with weight lifting (I used to do CrossFit, but its a way too expensive for me here).

My preference is the Vancouver Park Board Community centres - one membership gets you into all of them, and since they're municipally subsidized they have discounts for low income and corporate memberships. There are a wide variety of equipment and amenities available too depending on the community centre (e.g. your card gets you into every ice rink, swimming pool/hot tub, and fitness centre across the city). If you want to practice o-lifting, I know the Mt Pleasant Community Centre has bumper plates and a platform but I don't know where else does. At minimum, most centres have a power rack, bench, and assortment of free weights. You can call ahead or visit to find out too. I pay $30/month with the corporate discount. http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/community-and-cultural-centres.aspx

I agree with Lauren above - community centres are great! I lift at Kerrisdale (and the gym I train my clients at) and swim at both Hillcrest and Kerrisdale. Our meetup events (and where I run my business) are at APT South studio, in the Arbutus Village mall area. #180 4255 Arbutus St. We have an event this Saturday at 2:30!
I need ideas on places to have my daughter's 5th birthday party. It's a winter birthday so I need something inside. Looking for a gym or rec room type area. Thanks

I like Cascade Athletic, but it'll probably depend on what you're looking for in a gym. It's got an indoor and outdoor pool, rock wall, good amount of weights/machines/treadmills and I really like the childcare and kids swim lessons.
