My dentist has been Dr. Kirk Matheson at Bowker Creek Dental for as long as I can remember. You can find additional info at: http://www.bowkercreekdental.com/ He's great and very gentle with your mouth. I've had a few fillings done by him and I can't even tell they are there or that he was even in my mouth, even right after the procedure (aside from the freezing).

For cheap basic checkups, you can go to the student clinic at Camosun Lansdowne. Don't be put off by the fact that they're students - all the reviews I've heard are very good. Highly professional and well supervised.
MisterMeowMeows replied:

DEFINATLY [Dr. Allan Macintosh](http://www.broadmeaddentalcentre.ca/) Been going there for about 8 years. Not the cheapest, but they are great. You can watch tv or movies also while getting the work done, which helps me keep distracted from the shit going on in my mouth.

Dr. Laver. Family dentist for over 20 years. Didn't have a cavity till I was 29. http://www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/72056/Dr-Edward-Laver-Victoria-BC.html
derut replied:
I was terrified of dentists until I found the good folks at Cresta Dental at the Tillicum Mall. My dentist prescribed Atavan and it's been a godsend; however, I lose pretty much a whole day on that stuff and I can't drive, but I don't remember much of the procedure and while it's happening, I don't really mind. This is coming from someone who had a lifelong fear of dentists! Now that I don't fear them, I get regular checkups.
solve4x replied:
Dr. McElroy at Oak Bay Dental Centre on Currie Road has been my dentist since I moved to town. I've been very happy with his work.

I like Chanel Gallant on Yates and Cook a lot, and I used to hate going to the dentist. I still don’t look forward to it, but she and her staff are great.
sadmarmoset replied:
I see Dr Leavitt in Oak Bay. Her hygienists are amazing. I used to have a ton of anxiety about dental visits, but this office has been really good to me.

Late to party Sherwood family dental are amazing and the dentist is a human being, I had no money needed a root canal and my insurance was a couple of months away he essentially did the work at cost than waived the cost 2 days before Xmas last year. He is great with kids, the office clean and professional. I work in long term care (which is how I met him) he comes in to check on his elderly clients on his own time. Amazing wonderful dentist
Pimbata replied:
I used to go to Dr Matheson at Bowker Creek Dental - while he’s a nice guy and a decent dentist, the only upgrades at the office are cosmetic. Technologically they were way behind, not digital Xrays. I ended up switching to James Bay Dental because they had a huge equipment overhaul and wanted to try them out and I’ve been super happy. The dentist there (Dr. Vorobyev) happened to be the best I’ve ever had so far, which was lucky but worked out.
Chickideedeedee replied:
Dr Bell down town is very good. He is a very skilled, detail oriented dentist. He's also compassionate to those of us who are not great with getting dental work.I had a crown in several months ago, and he remembered that I burn through anaesthesia extremely quickly from the filling I had several months to that, and was checking on me every few minutes and had a freezing needle ready. Also: he's kinda cute.

Dr. Chanel Gallant on Yates st. will happily administer Ativan. I quite like their in house hygienist, but sometimes they have an on-call hygienist, so you would have to confirm who you were getting.
Tammy L. replied:
I now go to the best dentist I had since childhood when we went to a family friend and colleague of my father's. her name is Ikonomou Vicky Dr I even hijacked cristina and lulu away from thier dentist and brought them, her office fits all your criteria. https://plus.google.com/106127803489617440946/about?gl=ca&hl=en
Shawna B. replied:
Dr Andrade out in Langford; she's pretty dang good....I go out of my way to avoid snooty hygienists!
Terri U. replied:
I've always gone to Dr. Darryl Sinclair on Hillside. You'd have to ask about the pain reduction stuff, but his hygenists are great.
My dentist is a combination of Jim Henson and mr Rodgers. And he's tiny, has a therapy dog you can cuddle as well as heated massage chairs. Dr. Laver. I heart him.
Chris L. replied:
Dr. Rick Chambers is great. I've been seeing him & his crew for over 10 years. Even when I smoked & took less than great care of my teeth they were really nice and helpful.
Sloth G. replied:
Dr Glen Mcilroy on curry st. Near Windsor park. Really nice. Definitely non judgemental, and crazy technique with needles. I been stuck 5 times in the last year and haven't felt the needle yet.

Colwood Dental Group - Dr. Holben. Amazing team.
Shelby G. replied:
If it's anything other than a cleaning (oh, I have lots of dental issues, 3 root canals, fillings up the wazoo and gum surgery), they need to drug me. My dentist fills me right full of Xanax and I'm ready to go (kind of). I go to Hillside Dental Center (in the mall).

Dr. Leachman. He's hilarious and painless. He used to have an office on Douglas beside Mint with the big red dentist chair in the window. He's now beside the Marriot hotel. If Jim likes him you can imagine how good he is. And reasonable. He treats a lot of street people with grace and passion.

Any recommendations for dentists? For someone with a mild fear of dentists? Basically what the title says. I'm wondering if any of you have a recommendation for a good...
anthrogeek replied:
I go to Inharmony Dental, they are super. I had a severe phobia of dentists before I started and now I don't even need sedation. They have painless needles too, so far I've had the dental vibe and a needleless injection.
EskimoDave replied:
Dr. Laver is great.
Galurana replied:
Dr Babin. I used to be very phobic and he's fantastic. So are his staff - they all went out of the way to help me relax and I can't even feel his needles. His office on Chatterton is a little out of the way, but if you time it right there's a #6 that goes right by it (it might be the 6B, but I'm not completely sure). I know there was a thread a week or so ago for lower cost options, most of their fees are regulated though so there shouldn't be a ton of variation in prices.
schmuck55 replied:
I go to Dr Sajan, he took over my old dentist's practice. I've only seen him a handful of times but he's great. I don't particularly have a fear of dentists but I find him very clear, explains what he plans to do before he does it, so maybe that would help you. Understanding, won't shame you for blatantly lying about how often you floss. The hygienists and staff are great too. He's downtown in the CIBC building.
justants replied:
Dr. C Ross Crapo http://www.drcrapo.com/ Even his website is relaxing! His staff did try to upsell me a bunch when I first went in there (no, I don't think I need gum surgery), but it's was the easiest dentist appointment I've ever experienced, the hygienists noted my anxiety and were very gentle. And whatever process they used to clean my teeth was top notch, it completely got rid of all the stains. They also have a really affordable new patient package, which is perfect for someone who hasn't been to the dentist in a while. If you book an appointment with them, don't forget to mention that you don't like dentists and they'll be extra nice :)
drpestilence replied:
Where are you a student? Both camosun and uvic have dental coverage to a point.
the_nard_dawg replied:
Dr Nadia Robichaud at Quadra Dental is awesome if you're in that area. She is very friendly, very calm and eager to explain any part of the process you're interested in. She's always in a great mood and puts you at ease immediately, and the rest of the staff there are really nice as well. When I told her I didn't have insurance she did what she could to accommodate me.
Chapps92 replied:
Dr. Joshua Chenowith. Dude gives 20% extra off what your student benefits cover so you pay next to nothing.
where is also a good dentist to go, to not having dental insurance that can help, that doesn't charge an arm and a leg located in Victoria Texas need addresses and...
