Do NOT get a guardian ad litem..do EVERYTHING humanly possible to avoid this..get a non court appointed mediator/counselor to help you but keep the official court out of your life as much as possible..court is designed to make $ off of you..to find a fall guy and to determine what they think Is best for your life...their are divorce mediators out their ..you can file for divorce but I'd try to see a mediator to really work out the details

Phillip Cohen ... he's a shark! Have her make a list of what she wants addressed in the proceedings. Ask for more than she needs to there is room to negotiate. BTW: If she goes to every good lawyer in town for a free consultation, I believe her spouse cannot then use that lawyer. Was that way a decade ago anyway. ;)

Sorry for anyone that had a bad experience! But, having gone to court both with and without a lawyer, I will never step foot in a court room again with out one. Please, continue on with any recommendations for a lawyer, or stop commenting. She's following the post reading everyone's recommendations for lawyers, and will be making calls to discuss advise and seek professional consultation.:) I have given her the name of mine, and have received a few via PM I've sent her. She will have several great resources to turn to.:) Thanks, everyone! On a side note, I have recommended Roger Hurley in Camden. 40+ years law experience as both a lawyer and a judge from Maine to Ohio. He was great!

I'm a lawyer and do not practice family law. Don't try to do it on your own, especially with children involved. Many good attorneys have been mentioned above. I would start with Chis MacLean in Camden. The only free advice I can give your friend is to get started ASAP to preserve your rights. "You snooze, you loose."

Jeramy Pratt, or Chris MacLeann! I used Jeramy in criminal cases, but my ex used Chris and won custody of my son by using him! Best of luck!
