Romantic River towns My wife mentioned she wanted to get away to a quiet town on the Delta. The problem is, we both don't know much about the area. Does anyone have...

Just head to the historic city of Locke/Walnut Grove/Isleton. Go on the weekends and check out the little shops and Al The Wops for the best steak. I only know of 1 hotel out there. Ryde hotel. Right on the river and supposedly haunted.

I know that when my wife and I stopped for breakfast in Rio Vista we felt like we walked into a scene from the makers of Deliverance.

I feel like the Delta communities tend to be impoverished and delapidated. A couple years ago I was dreaming about purchasing a house in the delta...and found that everything just looked rundown and the local economies weren't great.

I'd head down highway 16. Maybe find a nice bed and breakfast in Rio vista?

I'm super surprised at the ire that the delta is bringing up. I love the area and have spent a lot of my life there. Sure it's not Napa (thank fucking god) but it's super charming and the historical significance is amazing. I was going to come recommend some great places to stay, but I'm keeping them to myself after all. Go to someplace like Murphy's or Calistoga. They seem to be more of the liking of the highfalootin types that are crapping on the delta.

The last word that typically comes to mind in your average river town is romantic
