I got my eyes done 12 years ago by the same doctor who did Tiger Woods' LASIK. And it was very affordable and came with a lifetime guarantee (free repeat surgery if prescription changes years later)... http://www.whittenlasereye.com/
Any recommendations for good Lasik or PRK surgeons in the DC/MD area? Looking to getting Lasik or PRK, leaning toward PRK since I heard it was 'safer'. Any suggestions?

Just to comment on PRK vs Lasik, make sure to do your research first. They are two different approaches which their own pros and cons. I've had two friends get PRK. Both said it's really painful and has a long recuperation time. Lasik is painless and you are back to work in a day or two. One friend still has glasses after PRK because it wasn't completely successful. I personally would never get PRK over Lasik.

The Eye Center, Dr Boutros or Reisner. The latter did mine last year and it was awesome. They do both LASIK and PRK, if you're a candidate for LASIK I would suggest that personally, the recovery from PRK is much harder.

Eye Physicians and Surgeons in Fairfax/Alexandria. Dr. E is excellent. Pretty sure docs can buy their way into the Washingtonian's Top Doc issue.

I asked a family friend who is one of the top national eye doctors (in Miami), and he recommended Dr Clinch and Dr Adi to me, both past "Washington Top Doctors". I have a consult set up with Clinch this week. Can report back how it goes if you're interested.

Had mine done through Dr Huang in Bethesda. Excellent experience!

I went with Dr Holzman based out of the Rockville TLC office. I had PRK 2 years ago. I am still 20/15. I was nothing but impressed. The PRK recovery may be a little bit more difficult than LASIK, but it is totally worth not having a chance of knocking the flap loose.

I did LasikPlus in Alexandria. It was quick painless and worth the money. I paid just over 3 k all in. Couldn't be happier.

I used Dr Whitten for my LASIK, did a lot of research, asked a lot of questions, was a good candidate, and had excellent results. It also cost about $4K, but I'll pay a little more for good results. Went from -6 in each eye to a little better than 20/20. That was a little over 3 years ago, no complications so far. I did have very dry eyes for about a year, but I always had somewhat dry eyes before. Now they're back to normal (for me). I'd say the vision stabilized completely within six months (I could see within a day but it fluctuated back and forth a little bit). I also followed the post care instructions to the letter and took Omega-3 supplements, which may not have done any good but what the hell.

Recommendations for lasik/laser eye surgery in DC? Getting to the point of not particularly enjoying my contacts/glasses routine anymore. Any suggestions - and idea of...

I did my evaluation for LASIK in dc at TLC and then had the surgery near Tysons. I had a great experience. Make sure your contacts are out for at least a week before you get an evaluation.... they can temporarily change the shape of your eye. I also did an evaluation at LASIK plus in alexandria and found the whole process pushy and unprofessional (having me sign papers after my eyes had been dilated). I couldn't be happier w my results from TLC. I had been wearing glasses since 3 rd grade, wearing toric lense for astigmatisms and pretty blind. 24 hours after the procedure I was 20/20 and have been for 2 years. Edit: 2 years ago I paid about $4700. Best money I've ever spent

Dr Harry Huang in Bethesda did mine and it was great. They use the facilities at TLC though so that might be just as good. Edit: I paid similar to above ($4500) and have no regrets. Seriously the best thing I ever did for myself.

I did lasik plus in Alexandria. 3800$ worth every penny.

I've been on the fence about LASIK on a slight astigmatism for years, but a bunch of folks I know that got it done swear by Dr. Melanie Buttross. She's been performing LASIK ever since it was approved in the US and has done thousands of corrections. (Also, her ad runs on WTOP a couple dozen times every day and is seared into my brain.) She works out of TLC as well.

Dr Holzman with TLC laser eye centers. I had PRK done two years ago and am doing great.

Dr Kang at Eye Doctors of Washington (edow.com) did mine. Went really well and was very happy with the practice. Was $2400 per eye (about 5 years ago). When it comes to shooting lasers into my eye ball I'm okay paying a little more.
Have any of my NOVA friends had LASIK surgery or have any good recommendations of doctors who do it? Thanks in advance!

I am not a candidate but quite a few friends have used and loved Dr. Whitten, a couple that are doctors themselves http://whittenlasereye.com/landing/lasik/?gclid=CIL5 tYW6 rMACFcZQ7Aod9 n4AGA

Had lasik done about 12 yrs ago. One of the best decisions I've made (no lie). Just make sure to go to a reputable place. I had mine done at Eye Doctors of Washington by Dr. Thomas Clinch. He is one of the best in the country.
I'm thinking about getting Lasik. Does anyone have any good or especially bad experiences with it? I'm terrified.
Ricki G. replied:
I had it about 13-14 years ago. I ended up with "mono vision" which means one eye is for distance and one is for reading and I love it. I had Mark Whitten do it, lasik provider to the stars. I do recommend it. Of course, I was falling out of bed trying to see the alarm clock ..... One key is to be soooo busy with work for the week leading up to it that you don't have time to think about it!
Have any of you had Lasik surgery before turning 50? As I understand it, it could fix my distance vision but I'd still have to wear reading glasses. Please share any...
Thinking of getting lasik soon, does anyone have recommendations? I'm reading mixed reviews for TLC, LasikPlus, and Eye Doctors of Washington... Anyone already got it...
